The car in the picture is a lot higher and bigger than mine.Biospace wrote: ↑21 Nov 2023, 4:42pm73" is 3 inches wider than one of these:Ontherivet77 wrote: ↑20 Nov 2023, 12:32pm I own a Honda CRV which is classed as an SUV. I also have a Labrador. Please forgive me for being such a terrible person.
Seriously though it is 73 inches wide, according to the spec, which makes it no wider than Mick F's Toyota Yaris, and is basically a standard saloon size car with 4x4 capability.

Why have perceptions changed so that "4x4 capability" is now regarded as something necessary for the general public? How does it help you, and what else does it allow you to do?
Certainly the higher and bluffer the front, the more likely a cyclist or pedestrian will be killed in an impact, as highlighted in this topic and others. My experience of motor cars is that their capability is mostly down to the driver's ability and suitability of tyres for conditions.
The CRV is effectively a front wheel drive car, like many others, except when you need 4 wheel drive which is mostly never. So it doesn't help me and it wasn't a factor in the purchase of the car. However, having a reputation for being very reliable and nice car to drive did make a difference which is why we have had three to date.

IMO there is no possible justification for owning one.

Re: Tour of Flanders - GCN App
Just an update on this issue. I thought this issue was resolved but the picture in picture problem continued on Fire TV. It was annoying but you could just about watch a race without too much interruption. No problems with the previous Eurosport app I used. Anyway this has been going on for months and no resolution from GCN. The last couple of days my Tdf coverage has been all over the place, so I'm now looking for a refund. A cursory look on trust pilot reviews indicate app problems abound across GCN, Eurosport and Discovery+.
I think if you intend watching races on TV rather than a tablet then I would think long and hard about signing up for this, despite GCN having some good content.

Re: Tour of Flanders - GCN App
After I contacted GCN they were not sure what was causing the problem, but they did pass it on to their developers. I've not had any response since, but I was able to watch the Amstell Gold Race without any problems. So, I'm assuming they have resolved this for me. Unfortunately, I have no idea what they have done, so I cannot advise for anyone with similar problems.

Re: Tour of Flanders - GCN App
Yep, I started with the enlarged left hand picture then it seemed to settle into the 3/4 4/4 screen thing. Unfortunately, a new TV etc is completely out of the question for me, so I'm hoping to resolve it with the fire stick or I'll be cancelling the package. I'm waiting on a response from GCN so if they come up with a genuine fix (ie not turn it on and off again) I will post it on here.Paulatic wrote: ↑3 Apr 2023, 8:15am I was getting those symptoms with a Firestick last year. Seemed to show an enlarged area of the top left of the picture. I gave over watching something thinking it had been filmed in an arty manner. Then the same happened at the Cyclo Cross.
Reverted to watching it back from the Mac with no problems. Recently bought a 4K Apple TV off Ebay, and the whole app watching, video streaming, experience is so much better than the Firestick.

Okay thanks I will have a look for that icon on the fire stick and see if I can turn it off.

Tour of Flanders - GCN App
Has anyone been having trouble with the GCN tv app today? I've had issues with screen size changing from full size to 3/4 size repeatedly throughout the race. Issues do not appear to be on tablet just TV applications. Anyone had similar trouble and know of a quick fix. (I'm using a fire stick).

I thought Roglic went pretty deep yesterday and that may have a knock on effect today. Although he looks to be in a unassailable position now. Good to see Bernal on the attack though as the racing as been pretty lack lustre up till now.

I have a Kag In A Bag which is nearly as old as me I don't know about yours but mine is made of some sort of indestructible material from a time when breathability obviously wasn't a top priority.

Re: Cycle Routes in Fife?
Years ago we camped in Pittenweem and cycled the coast road through Crail and up to St Andrews on very basic bikes, it was a lovely ride and if you can factor in the additional mileage it may well be worth it. We came back cross country and it was quite a bit hillier but still very pleasant.

Re: Suggestions for my first (endurance) road bike
The first question to ask yourself is do you know what size bike you need? You need to decide how aggressive/relaxed you want your position on the bike to be, for example do you want your saddle to be level with the handlebars, above the handlebars and if so how much or below the bars. Also, how stretched out do you want to be? My advice would be to go to your local bike shop and get some general advice about the size of bike you need.
With a budget of of £350 you shouldn't have any trouble getting a decent road bike used. Specialized, Trek, Cannondale are all decent brands. Something like the Ribble CGR might be right up your street for all weather and commuting riding.
Ideally you want a road bike with full mudguard clearance for winter riding but that will limit your search options. You can use SKS race blades and similar for bikes with tight clearances with the advantage is that you will have bigger pool of bikes to look at.
The Cannondale CAADX could be a good deal and make a good all year round bike, but ideally take a mate with you who knows something about bikes if you go to have a look at it.

Re: Avoiding Manchester
Also a possibility. I like a canal path for a few miles but they can get a bit samey after a while. Wouldn't want to do 40 miles of towpath. But it's definitely worth a look.Ontherivet77 wrote: ↑14 Aug 2021, 6:54pm Or If you want to avoid roads altogether you could get on the Leeds Liverpool canal tow path at Leigh and that will take you to just north of Chorley.

If you wanted just to do a small stretch of the tow path, then the canal intersects the road between Haigh Hall & Worthington Lakes at Red Rock (Bridge 63). This will take you up to Adlington Marina and on to Chorley.

Re: Avoiding Manchester
You could go Knutsford head towards Lymm follow signs for Warburton Bridge, head toward Glazebrook, Glazebury and then across the East Lancs to Leigh (it starts getting more urban now) Head from Leigh to Hindley Take ladies lane to Aspull and then Haigh Hall and follow the road down into Worthington Lakes and out towards Chorley. At the junction for Chorley stop at Freddies Ice Cream Parlour for a double scoop waffle cone and then head on to Chorley town centre and on to the A6 for Preston.
Alternatively, you could also cycle through Coppull rather than Chorley and find your way to Preston via Charnock Richard and Leyland.
