"How did you break into recumbents?"
You don't. They break you in and captivate you.

+1, Cunobelin beat me to it. Really easy and stress free. You will see all sorts of cyclists on it.

+1. I needed a sparkly blue for the Thorn Tandem and could find no paint. Having chosen the varnish the assistant even let me walk out of the store to colour match it in daylight. Boots in High Street Cosham.lady assistant helped me match up the
A bargain as it lasted until I no longer had the machine and probably long beyond it.

That's interesting because I fitted the studded tyre to the rear, driving wheel, because I found I was slipping backwards down a hill I was climbing near Chalton in Hampshire because of lack of grip.
In retrospect I would have been better to fit three studded tyres.

Re: Absurd bike reviews!
I used to read them all avidly and learned a huge amount, even though I wasn't looking for another bike. I really miss his writing
And what do we get now ? Reviews by a bloke who makes and sells his own bikes.
CUK had no further use for CJ's independence or depth of knowledge and down graded the value of magazine reviews. I don't expect Mr Haslett does it for free.

Re: Bike lanes
It denotes not a lane but a "marginal strip". The aim is to protect a motorist from dropping off the edge of the carriageway into (usually) soft surfaces and/or to make a speed limit self enforcing by visually making the carriageways narrower so that a motorist unconsciously slows down
As a result the detritus is not swept away by motor vehicles so is commonly found in this strip to the detriment of cyclists.

Re: Mirrors...
I've tried all sorts but reckon the mirracycle is still best in your (our) configuration. I agree that the plastic gets a bit brittle at the joins. It is a shame you cannot buy spare parts but have to buy the whole thing.

Re: Small Wheel Blow-outs
I've found the quality and size of a smaller size tube more impactive on durability than on larger sizes.
With my Bike Friday I found some slightly over sized which resulted in creasing and ultimately failure. I think it was the Continental that proved to be consistent but they were hard to get.
Counter intuitively, despite Brucey's usually invaluable advice I also found that a 18 tube slightly stretched to be a better bet than a lesser quality 20 inch

Re: GPS time?
My problem was that I thought the gps60 was showing the correct time but when I found out about the issue I noticed that, under settings, it was still recording under U.K. time. This is further compounded by the fact that I was frequently crossing and recrossing different time zones, some only 30 minutes change. Very close to 12 hours from U.K. hence the misinterpretation
My camera is new *( know don't take a new camera on a trip but this was replacing a stolen one) and I didn't consider changing the clock until half way through. Geo location is going to be a bit technical therefore so I'm relying on pen and paper, i.e my diary

Re: GPS time?
Another issue (with the 60 versions) is that it writes up a gpx track at midnight and starts a new one. This occurred to me in Australia.
I saw the track truncated but once I realised I found I could join the split parts together using mapsource on the computer.

Re: Petersfield Post anti-cycling rant
This editor has previous for outrageous personal comments about which he feels a superiority view.(including cycling generally).
I suspect it is just to get respondents to write to the paper which is usually a dismal affair. It is delivered free where I live which indicates how much value can be put upon it.

Sorry, a misunderstanding. I was referring to the protective product asked about earlier. My tent was a North Face. In the light of my experience I would in future let UV take its natural course.

Re: robens lodge 2 tent on offer
I'd say use with caution. I used the product last summer according to instructions, dried the tent and packed it away. Used it a few weeks later and all the glued on attachments and seams fell apart.
Can't say it was the product but they denied culpability saying tent had delaminated. Reasonable quality tent ruined which appeared on inspection prior to application to be sound.

Birthday Rides - anyone going with a recumbent?
Hi,
I'm going with my Trice and will be on the camping field. Be good to meet up with anyone else attending with a non-standard HPV.

Yes TC, we've missed you and your legal expertise. Had to make do with different interpretations.
