I've always been of the opinion that "cool"= "not giving a damn what others think, making your own way".
So I've always been cool, but no-one has ever agreed.
I am planning to go to that festival. It's not that far from home anyway.

Re: Police Thugs
I have never been stopped by the police at all. The only times a policeman has spoken to me in relation to bicycles were over the phone when my bike was stolen and when waiting for a train and the officer was a keen cycle-tourist.
I think that the police mostly ignore cyclists to be honest. This isn't the experience of the OP, but I think that looks like it was extremely unusual from the lack of "me too" coming from other people.

I don't know, but I do know my bike would melt under those conditions. I probably wouldn't do well either.

Why shout?
I appreciate people will get varying mileage, but I have had good results (i.e. no abuse at all) from simply saying variations of "Excuse me", "Passing by on your right" and so on.
This is in varying parts of the country, so it isn't a local thing. But it could be in the tone of voice.

I don't see the problem.

Re: First Music Festival!
I went to T in the Park when I was younger. Mainly I have always gone to smaller, local festivals (although I live close enough to Liverpool for the Mathew Street Festival, recently renamed Liverpool International Music festival, but the same thing). Something I still do.
Later this year I am going to the Big Green Cardigan Festival, around which I have naturally built a weeks touring

Re: Roundabout Close Call
The only two accidents I've had were on roundabouts.
One occurred when a taxi driver overtook me as I was turning right and he was going straight on.
The other was when a driver pulled out without looking. Turned out to be an insurance salesman too!
When I was complaining about the last one a relative 'defended' it by suggesting that cars have a blind spot behind the screen pillar. Sure they do, and if this is in the direction of oncoming traffic then a driver should move their head!

A post script in case anyone finds this thread while searching for information.
I took the bike back to Hewitts and it turned out to be a problem with the lamp. Most likely a failed bulb. The light was replaced and now everything works beautifully.

Because he wanted to.
Well, that's unfair. Normally abuse is because the abusive participant feels entitled to something that they feel they aren't getting. Like the ability to drive without deviating from their course.
This driver could possibly have been complaining about how ridiculously loud their vehicle was.

Re: Scouse bikes.
I think there has been a similar scheme in Southport for over a year. All I know about it is the bike station outside a pub in Lathom. I've expressed an interest in trying them out because of the hub gears these bikes have, but haven't gone so far as to register.

Always on is in the centre of the switch. Sensor option to the right. It was on always on.

Re: Sonn 28 dyno-hub with B&*M lumotec light
It's a "Lumotec cyo senso." Tail light is battery operated.
It does have a sensor for light levels, so I waited until it was too dark for there to be any question and rode up and down my street (about 300 meters), just in case it needed time to build a charge.
Not even a dim glow.
I'll be calling the shop tomorrow (open Tuesday-Saturday). I hope they can fix it directly. My worst fear is a faulty hub, since it would mean I would be without the bike until it was replaced.

Sonn 28 dyno-hub with B&*M lumotec light
I've just got my lovely new Hewitt Cheviot. I had them fit a dyno hub and light on it, but the light doesn't work. I don't know if this is due to the light or the hub as I have nothing to test them with.
The cabling looks to be correct from the wiring instructions, although one of the two connectors seemed a bit looser than the other.
Is there anything obvious that I haven't considered before I take it back to the shop and have them look at it?
