Re: West coast France tour April 2024 camping
Check out Brouage, very interesting and good base for a round trip to Il'e d'Oleron, good crossing on the bridge but pretty boring after that. Nice trip.

Cycling in Cyprus
Thinking of doing a tour/holiday/get away to Cyprus, it has many links to UK, warm and outside the EU 90day business. I know it is touristy etc., but does anyone have any knowledge re. cheap hotels, whether you can cross into the Turkish zone no probs., is it best to stay in that zone? I don't want to be pedalling every day, move on every 2 or 3 days, own bike carry own luggage, done touring before. Probably just a pipe dream now but would be interested if anyone had experience of it.
Thanks.
Thanks.

What is happening at CYUK HQ?
I live locally to the Guildford HQ, today I happened to hear a rumour CYUK were making longstanding , experienced employees, in their prime, redundant. Is this a pogrom to eradicate the last vestiges of the CTC?
I used to enjoy the CTC magazine and still read it all but it seems now to be more aimed at minority groups / diversity. Maybe these unfortunate people did not quite fit this new outlook, we should be told.

Re: Cheap accommodation France
Point taken, depends what you call cheap. Campanile restaurants not gourmet but they are on site and I've always found the standard perfectly acceptable.

I'd take a train straight out of Crest, (too busy), to Die further up the valley, wife and I had great 5 days cycling round there last year, stayed at the Logis hotel right opposite the station. can't go wrong.

Not used them but I've always found Jonathan Davey at "The Map Centre" very helpful, knowledgeable and good service / price.

Re: Santander to Portsmouth Ferry Tips
I remember a night ferry to St Malo, no cabin, constant musac, "I Lost my Heart to a Starship Trooper" was one I recall. After an hour or so of that I got up and disconnected the speaker and a few minutes later one of the crew came and gave me a bollocking and re connected it. Happy Days.

Re: Canal Entre Deux Mers Route
Try and take in Brouage north of Royan. It is a fortified supply town from Napoleon's time, one hotel on the main street, scenic and interesting.

Springtime in Tuscany CTC Tours
Further to receiving the latest Cycle magazine I looked at the "Eurocycle Adventures" advertisement for possible tour next year. Eurocycle seem to be in league with Cycling UK which seems a bit hypocritical since Cycling UK disbanded CTC Holidays which were so popular, (then immediately load the magazine saying how wonderful cycle touring is).
It isn't coming back.
The title of the thread relates to a lovely holiday organised by husband and wife team, 2005 I think, fixed base north east of Pisa in an Italy Bike Hotel, (early spring, quite a lot of driving rain but also some sun and great food, nice people).
After returning and a couple of months later I, and I assume the rest of the group received a cheque for £50 from the group leaders as they had a divi up on the surplus over costs. That was CTC Holidays, thank you.
Now onto Eurocycle Adventures...
Bogs.

Re: Europe 2022
How do they check how much you've got? Have they a machine to check your balance? If you said you were only staying for 7 days and showed £1000 in your account what is to stop you touring for a month? You could have a return cheapo ticket for the 7 day which you chuck. I can't see how they can police it efficiently.

Re: Packing a bike box for EasyJet flight
It is Gatwick Simon and by what you say I feel confident with a rack bag with tools, inner tubes etc maybe a few random bits of clothing for packing/protection. + helmet. Thanks.
