Stena Line Belfast to Cairnryan
Has anyone taken their gear on this service recently? I am assuming that bike loaded with gear can be left as is in the vehicle area? Is there any requirement to remove bags, check anything through security etc? Any issue with carrying small amounts of fuel for stove etc?

These guys do a usb charger ‘velocharger’ for both hub and bottle dynamos. I’ve use both with no issues. Currently on the hub based version. Can keep my iPhone on full charge even when using gps all day.

Re: Amsterdam Airport question
Hi, you have to put your bike in a box. They sell cardboard boxes at the airport. Was around 23 Euro last time I did it in 2014.

Re: When I flew with my bike this is what happened......
Flying out of Belfast International. Had our bikes in wiggle plastic bags and were made to sign a disclaimer for damage as they weren't in boxes. Next issue is the outsize scanner which doesn't have the height for the bike to go upright. Packed bike will need to go in at an angle so needs to be propped up by bags or the like. The staff member was initially trying to get us to break our bikes down further to get them through but we suggested angling them with our bags and then putting the bag through the scanner again so that it could be properly checked. Bikes arrived safely at Paris CDG.
From Paris CDG. No issues at all, bike appears to be fine.
Experience of Schipol at least as recently as 2014 is that a minimum of cardboard bike boxes must be used, available from the airport at 23euro.
regards,
steve.

Getting from Paris CDG Airport to Loire Valley
Does anyone have practical experience of getting from the airport to the Loire Valley by train. Haven’t decided on start point but assuming once on the route could use the train that apparently will ferry bikes and passengers along the main path. Main concern is getting down from Paris. Any advice would be very welcome.

Repairing a torn fly sheet - Akto
Hi,
on my last trip I managed to tear the flysheet of my Hilleberg Akto right across the front close to where it joins the ground sheet. A tear of about 30cms. I stitched it up with standard thread and it held up for the last few nights. Luckily there was no rain as it clearly wouldn't be waterproof.
Has anyone any experience of sucessfully repairing a flysheet with this sort of damage, note it is an area that gets quite a bit of tension. Is this one for a professional?
cheers,
steve.

Re: Mosquitoes in the Netherlands
Hi,
I've been in the Netherlands on cycle trips quite a few times. I was there most recently in 2010 and 2009 in August. Have to say I have never had any problems with mossies or really any biting insects in Holland.
best,
steve.

Re: Campsite in Amsterdam?
Hi,
I have stayed a few times at this place http://www.campingamsterdamsebos.nl/. Its a bit further out from the city but fairly easy to get to via public transport, they even provide an info sheet on what buses/trams to get. Decent enough place, fairly quiet.
