Thanks

Quick poll: Your touring accomm - tent, hostel, hotel?
Hi
I'm writing an article for the CTC magazine on cycle-touring accommodation.
I'd like to get an idea of where we're staying on our tours. So this is a quick straw poll:
Roughly how many nights would you say you spend away per year on cycle tours?
And roughly what proportion of those nights are camping, in hostels, hotels, at friends or relatives, or other places?
Thanks - either reply here, or you can see my email address at http://www.bike99.com/contact.html

Accommodation website experiences wanted
Hi
I'm writing an article on cycle-touring accommodation (UK only, not overseas) for a forthcoming issue of the CTC mag.
I'd be interested in your experiences of:
(a) cyclist-centred accommodation websites (such as bedsforcyclists.co.uk, or ukcyclingaccommodation.co.uk)
and
(b) 'couchsurfing' or other non-conventional-venue websites used as part of a cycle tour (such as couchsurfing.org, or airbnb.co.uk)
Thanks - reply either here, or personally to me (you can see my email address on the page http://www.bike99.com/contact.html )

THANKS Re: Your 'commuting evangelist' experiences wanted
Many thanks to all those who kindly took the time to reply to my request for info.
A very quick observation from my own experiences of recent contract work in central London: hooray for the British Library - expansive covered bike parking, showers, bike-tips-website/blog on the intranet, generally bike-aware culture where your line manager is also a cycle commuter... it all made commuting to St Pancras an absolute pleasure.
I'd better get cracking on writing up the article...

Your 'commuting evangelist' experiences wanted
Hi everyone.
I'm writing an article for the CTC magazine on commuting.
I'd be interested to hear of your experiences, especially as 'cycling evangelist'.
In other words, what works and what doesn't, when persuading work colleagues to try cycling, or persuading work to provide better facilities such as parking or showers.
I'd also love to hear your tips on things such as...
- looking normal and businesslike rather than 'bikey';
- getting work stuff to work without a ministerial car carrying your shoes;
- not arriving smelling like a rugby player's armpit;
- being on time (strategies to avoid or deal with punctures etc);
- practical bike buying (folder?; Cycle to Work scheme adoption);
- providing, in your capacity as office bike expert, useful information when it's asked for (e.g. routes, training)
Many thanks!
Rob Ainsley
