A5117 bike lane

Does anyone know if the new A5117 bike lane between the M53 junction 10 and the Thornton-le-Moors turn off has been completed/opened?

Jardin de Tuileries

Does anyone know if it is permissible to ride a bike through the gardens (Jardin de Tuileries) between the Place de Concorde and the Louvre gallery in Paris?

Cycliq 12 bike camera

Just wondering if there's anyone in the Merseyside area who could give me some 1:1 advice on how to set up and use my Cycliq 12 front facing bike camera please. Wirral preferred but happy to travel.

Glasgow to Edinburgh along the canal

I’m looking into a possible cycle tour from Glasgow to Edinburgh via Falkirk, along the canal. In the past, I have visited the Falkirk Wheel and am aware of the good riding surface alongside the canal at that point. However, I was wondering if it is tarmac all the way and suitable for road bikes.

There is another option for us to continue on from Edinburgh to Dunbar and Berwick on Tweed so any advice about Route 76 would be helpful too.

Normandy/Brittany

Looking to arrange a cycling holiday in Brittany and/or Normandy next summer so planning early! There's been some interest from the group in a single base with perhaps four day rides out in different directions, rather than a point to point tour. We'd be catching the ferry from Portsmouth and happy to ride from any of the French ports to our base, wherever that may be. So, any suggestions of a suitable town to stay in and suitable accommodation - something between a bunkhouse and an expensive hotel, maybe a Camponille. Alternatively, if there is a ready made 4 day tour from one of the French ports at say 45 miles a day (to allow looking at points of interest) I'd be interested I having a look. I have discounted Tour De Manche after reading reports of riding in straight lines in tunnels of trees for mile after mile.

Rest and be thankful A82

Riding Glasgow to Inverary next month. After Arrochar we go up Rest and be Thankful. Is the old military road, which runs parallel, suitable for bikes? If it is a forestry road, is it open to cyclists? Also, the gradient on the A82 looks more even and therefore kinder on the knees. Many thanks.

Isle of Wight

I am taking a group of about ten mixed ability cyclists to "The Island" for a long weekend next April. The more able riders will be entering the Randonnee on the Sunday but I'm looking for two other rides for the Saturday before and the Monday after. It would be good to be able to offer a longer and shorter option on each day, with re-grouping at common coffee and lunch stops and preferably taking in a place of interest. We will be based in Newport. Any shared local knowledge or websites would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Re: Doncaster to Cleethorpes

I'd just like to thank mockcyclist for the advice. We completed the Wirral to Cleethorpes tour on Sunday. The leg as described between Doncaster and Cleethorpes was great. Thank you.

Doncaster to Cleethorpes

Can anyone suggest a pleasant route between Doncaster and Cleethorpes avoiding busy A roads but taking in any interesting sights and villages, please?

Trans pennine trail

Did the TPT in 2010. Am planning on doing part of it again in September between Lymm and Sprotborough. Has it improved over the past 6 years or is it still as bad as it was?

Re: Canal touring

Thanks that's really useful. I was lured into researching this route after reading Nigel Blandford's article in the CTC magazine. He did Manchester to London in 2 days on towpaths. Time for a rethink.

Canal touring

I'm seriously considering cycling from Chester to London on canal towpaths (Shropshire Union, Birmingham Canal and Grand Union). It's 232 miles. If anyone has experience of long distance towpath touring with pannier bags, what are the surfaces like? Would a touring bike with 25's be suitable? Also, I'm thinking that navigating bridges and anglers would make speeds slow. Is 8 mph realistic?
