Re: Garmin Edge Touring
I use a Garmin touring purely to plot where I have been to reflect on, and keep track of, that activity. I have always meant to have a go at plotting new routes, to extend my repertoire as it were, on a computer and then upload to the Garmin and follow these ( or indeed download routes of other people) . However time constraints always seem to get in the way along with little desire to get my head around any this technology. I like a lot that you have done all the research and think that Roam + Komoot is a good solution and works simply. I am tempted to switch ... may I just ask are ether any costs to using Komoot as a route planner? Or should I just toughen up and explore the Garmin TouringIanwhitwell wrote: ↑9 Nov 2022, 12:10pm I have the Wahoo Roam and I plan my routes on Komoot (which is brilliant) or sometimes on OS maps where I can get a better idea of terrain, though Komoot does tell you what the surface under tyre is like. The former syncs directly to the Roam and if I use OS maps I can transfer it as a gps file to the roam via the app. I'm sure the Garmin does similar things. I did loads of research prior to buying the Roam and have not regretted the purchase once. It's so easy to use once you've set it up.
Hope you find a solution.

Allen Key to Nut Fit Converter Bolt brakes
Has anyone used these convertor bolts so that a newer caliper brake can be fitted to an older frame which won't allow for the recessed allen key bolt? I wonder how easy it is to replace the required threaded part on newer calliper brakes, ie how much dismantling is required?
I am in need of new callipers for a current build of an older frame and already have new Tiagra flat bar levers to hand so was thinking of matching these with Tiagra callipers which I have yet to buy.

Re: ISO or JIS 1" threaded headset
Indeed! This I have covered before; I have a '56 Youngs frame with about 32 mm stack height and one of these Mercians ('77) is 33 - I have used one of the Tange models before which is low enough.

ISO or JIS 1" threaded headset
I need to get 2 x 1" threaded headsets for 2 x Mercian frame / forks; one is 1977 the other 1990s. Does anyone know if I should be getting the ISO or JIS standard? I think it should be the (ISO) campag standard, 26.4mm crown race diameter but if anyone can confirm it would be helpful.

Re: chain link pin
increasingly helpful - especially as I do appear to have the OEM version at the correct length. In future it would be worth considering switching to KMC for simplicity as much as anything else?

chain link pin
I have a new Chainset - Tiagra 4700; Shimano recommend chain HG54. I have that chain as it was sent as part of the groupset deal. It surprised me that I don't need to shorten the chain (I estimate is 112 links) - using biggest sprocket / large chainwheel method to measure length. But the question is -
Is the pin that the chain comes with, meant to be used as the connecting pin or should I be buying a connecting pin separately? See photo - its a darker and very different looking pin - Or are there alternatives? On 11 speed I am using quick links but I am not sure there available for this chain??

Re: Eurosport
Assuming you have a paid eurosport subscription, you can cast from your tablet or phone to a TV that has a google chrome cast dongle plugged into HDMI port. If using Apple phone / iPad you will probably find it will not work if using a lead (apple lead is about £50) straight into HDMI port.

Re: Chain Care
excuse me if i have missed this somewhere, but...
thought i would try the epic ride and I have a new chain. Should I be cleaning the factory oils off the new chain first and if so what with - a degreaser followed by water and left to dry ( slightly gives me the heebejeebs a new chain being left wet ) or just WS then left to dry or something else?

on sale 5700 105 hubs from bike discount
Bike discount are selling the 5700 105 hubs at about the same price you can get Tiagra for and maybe half the price of the more recent 5800 105s. I think they are limited to 10 speed but if that suits they strike me as a bargain. I have used this german company before and found them excellent in terms of service/delivery etc.
