Re: Do you have your heating on? POLL

We don't usually put ours on until mid November and then just for a couple of hours morning and evening to dry clothes (we don't have a tumble dryer).

We used to have to use the heating more but we've had double glazing and new central heating in the past couple of years and it's made a heck of a difference.

Re: Pondering wheels - CRC, Rosebikes

I've had wheels built recently by both Spa Cycles and Dave Hinde, service and finished product was excellent from both and Dave Hinde were very quick quoting 2 weeks for delivery but the wheelset arrived in 1 week and a full £100 cheaper than the identical rim/hub combination from an another independant wheelbuilder.
From Spa I had Rigida Chrina rims on Shimano Tiagra hubs and from Dave Hinde Mavic Open Pros onto Shimano 105.

I dislike riding in anything but road shoes, ride better clipped in and in any case some cycling shoes just look great! :D

Really?

Read steps 7 & 8 on this page http://www.bobjacksoncycles.co.uk/resprays.php

Yes really, I've just had a frame resprayed by them and went through the process in detail with a member of staff and specifically asked about the Reynolds 631 logos as they had peeled off my 2 year old Bob Jackson frame in one area (my fault) and was told that they are slightly more prone to lifting as they apply them right at the end on top of the last coat. This is in contrast to their own transfers which do indeed go on under the final varnish coat as they say on their website.
They did a fabulous job of my respray which I only needed because I wanted a change of colour.

Re: Mudguard distance between tyres and caliper brakes

I don't have 10mm clearance between my 23mm tyre and caliper even before the guards go on. :) Probably about 4 mm max on my Ribble with guards fitted and slightly more on my Bob Jackson. Mighty tight under there. Ribble fitted the guards to tight that they just clear 23mm Vittoria Rubinos but the wheel rubs when I fit 23mm Conti GP4000s. Bit of a pain if I'm honest.

Re: Reynolds stickers?

I don't know about vintage transfers but the modern Reynolds logos are stickers that go on the frame once it's finished. (They are inclined to come off.)

Re: Cadence - how do you measure?

Cadence sensor on my Cateye Strada double wireless, used this computer indoors on some cadence based training dvds over the winter which has given me a better ability to judge my cadence when I'm not using the sensor. My cadence 'sweet spot' is around 85-90.

Re: Turbo Trainer Recommendation

I've been using an Elite Volare Mag for a couple of winters and it's been great. Good idea to get a riser block for your front wheel and a big fan to keep you cool. Also helpful to have a mat under the trainer to cut down vibration and protect the floor and a sweat net or just a towel over the bike to protect from dripping perspiration.

You are probably not as wasteful as I am. Easy to apply though, isn't it?

Very, just make sure to have plenty of kitchen roll handy to wipe off any excess then runs onto the outside of the frame as you go.
