Re: forums

A lot of the Touring Groups on FB are full of beginners which is fine but so many of them are asking basic questions which could be answered quickly by a web search.

I think Forums, like this one, are a much better source of advice because the information is not "lost" within a day or so and the search functions tend to be better. I like this forum and the Thorn Cycles forum

Re: forums

https://www.cycletouring.org/

There is this one which has a completely different emphasis but is about connecting individuals rather than companies I think. It was set up when CTC gave up its tours as I recall.

Re: Atrial Fibrillation...Should We Worry

I can do nothing but sit in this chair all day and every day, it's ruining my life
Sorry to hear this. Obviously your condition is far worse than mine as at least I can still do some local rides although I cannot go out with even the easy rides group locally as I need to go at my own pace.

Re: Atrial Fibrillation...Should We Worry

I didn't realise there were so many choices! I definitely had the laser catheter ablation option. It took me about a month to fully recover from the anesthetic!

Re: Atrial Fibrillation...Should We Worry

Thank you for highlighting the salient part. I see they refer to radiofrequency ablations. I thought they used a laser. Perhaps that is the same thing as I am not a scientist. As I said I think it is unlikely I will ever be offered another one so I suppose it is academic.

Re: Atrial Fibrillation...Should We Worry

I was offered an ablation for my AF ten years ago, and I'm still waiting for it
I believe it is a very expensive procedure so with the present state of the NHS that does not come as any surprise sadly.

Re: Atrial Fibrillation...Should We Worry

Perhaps I am basing this too much on my own experience. I was only offered 1 ablation and my cardiologist expressed some surprise that I had stayed in SR for longer than he expected after that ablation.

Hopefully Mr S will be able to compete again but I think we are talking about a completely different level of stress on the heart for that but again I may be wrong.

Re: Atrial Fibrillation...Should We Worry

You may be right Jonathan.

I just read on the GCN+ website "Sagan subsequently underwent an ablation procedure to correct arrhythmias in his heart"

Perhaps I put 2 and 2 together and got 5 but I still think 2 ablations isn't a good sign.

Re: Atrial Fibrillation...Should We Worry

Another high profile sufferer it would seem, one P Sagan.

Not sure describing an ablation (I think) as a pit stop for the heart is very helpful. As this is the second I do feel his chances of making the MTB Olympics must be rather slim.

Re: cycle.travel app

Yes, it's on Android.

It doesn't have all the functionality of the website.

I think it's mainly intended for turn by turn navigation on the go.
If you prepare routes before you leave you can call them up on the road I think but you will need a wifi/data connection at least initially.

Re: Max Heart Rate (Setting & Meaning)

No experience of Garmin either I'm afraid.

I use a wrist monitor linked to my Wahoo Roam.

It doesn't make any sort of judgement but as I have heart issues including AF I always feel it is wise to err on the side of caution so I use the "traditional" calculation to decide what I should be looking for on a ride.

I can also tell going uphill if it is getting difficult and once it gets to about 140 I bail out. I do see from the 3 calculations above if I use the 3rd one it gives 164 which I would certainly not like to get to.

Re: Brittany May 2024

I’ve emailed several campsites but had no reply,
I'm doing a short trip from Ouistreham to Cherbourg but not until July. (Not Brittany I know but camping in Northern France)

I would look at the website for the sites you are considering as most of them give their opening times. Whether they reply is a different matter although I tend to use Google translate to enquire. I have earmarked Arromanche and St Mere Eglise as possibles and they both open in April I think. As I recall they were/are municipal sites.
