I'm leaving on 16th June for Santander, then going to follow the quieter route suggested by bikepacker on the Santander to St Malo/Caen thread. After that work my way up the EV1 or roads where I think they will be more interesting or quicker.

folgesvenn you sound like you are in a similar position to me, final exam is 10th May and I start work on the 10th July so the trip has to be done in June realistically.

That's great about the extra days! My last exam is the 10th too! What do you study...? I start work on the 14th May but have 3 weeks off in August, so was planning to take around 17 days to do the trip, maybe more. It would be good to hear your experiences after your trip when you're back.

Re: Roscoff to Santander

I'm at uni in Plymouth (well, not for much longer; my final third year exam is in less than a month!) and am planning this journey in August. I was planning on around 100km/day, but cutting inland around Biaritz to take in some of the Pyrenees before heading across the foothills to Santander. When I planned it out (roughly following the EV1, following roads where it was more appropriate) it came out at aroun 850 miles, including the Pyrenees diversion. When were you thinking of going?

Cheers!

it's a great ride . me and a friend did this earlier in the year.

as JJf 's post . check his link.

also there's this one :

you can click on the coloured routes and see photos that people have posted. even though some of the routes say they're not finished yet they actually all are.
we bought the yellow michelin maps as back up and to get the overview of the route but what we found was just simply going into the Tourist information in the next town they supplied all the info we needed for routes and campsites.
they're so much more geared up for the cyclist and the routes are well marked.
we stuck close to the Atlantic and this meant that we had to cross over some massive bridges which are fine if you're experienced cyclist as one of them didn't have a cycle lane.
also becuase of not going in land we took the ferry from Royan to Pointe de Grave which was about 6 euros if i remember.
the Gironde, Landes area was amazing with 3 metre wide , super smooth cycle paths that undulated through miles and miles and miles of pine forest.

things changed dramatically when entering Spain not just topography but attitude to cyclists. mind you as we headed further west and into more rural areas it became pleasant again but the hills were a bit challenging in places. mind you the scenery made up for it.

we got the ferry back from Santander.

you'll have a great time !

Enjoy !

Hi,

I can't seem to find any info as to the condition of the route. Is it 100% paved? The websites seem to suggest this but I can't find anything concrete (ha!).

Cheers.

Just wondered if you still had the Lidl's panniers to offload...? Tried to send you a PM, but because I only just created my account I'm not currently allowed!

Cheers.
