Re: Runcorn Widnes Bridge Reopened

I live in Widnes and the silver jubilee bridge is a vast improvement over the old one. Even the road network around it is vastly better. Can’t stand the new bridge mind you and the roads around it, I always take the old bridge if possible.

Re: Touring with bulky camera gear

I carry my gear in a rucksack, I find it the most convenient and comfortable option. Also I feel like it’s the least place to get vibrations from the bike. Also they usually have a good space for a laptop if you want to edit pictures on the go or download/backup memory cards.

I suppose my bewilderment assumes you are starting from home?

I am cycling from home but recently moved into this town and never cycled in the town where office is. So no local knowledge in either town.

For anyone local am cycling Widnes (WA8 6DE) to St Helens (WA9 1UA)

Yeah give up on that, don't think it does routing on the App.

Re: What app for commuting route

Downloading Osmand now to try.

Am still using Bike Hub as it just works.

Still can't walk out how to get started on Cyclestreets, tried leaving it on itenary and just cycling but my phone kept going into standby. No idea why but doesn't happen on Bike Hub while it's navigating.

Done a route on cycle.travel but didn't like it, went a bit of a long way round.

In the porch area and still have room to get in and out.

Recommend CycleStreets.

Hi,

Can you let me know how you start the route, I can’t work it out?

pal wrote:I've seen a few recommendations for this one (but haven't used it myself; I'd be interested to know if anyone on here has...) https://www.komoot.com/

Just downloaded that but it doesn’t understand UK postcodes and it can’t find destination address so will try later for route home if I remember.

Re: 1man tent plus bike

I bought a Vango Omega 250 for this very purpose, got my bike and trailer in it but did have to take my front wheel off.

For me it was about security, I know people will comment about how they have been touring for years and never had a problem but it doesn't help. Planes are suppose to be the safest way to travel but I still hate them and would much rather be in a car/bus/train/bike.

Thanks,

Dave

What app for commuting route

Trying some differing apps while learning the best commuting route (8 miles each way).

So far I have only used Bike Hub as it's easy to use and recalculates if I go off the route.

I wanted to try CycleStreets and it looks like it's giving me the same route as Bike Hub but I can't seem to get the thing to actually start the route. I can see the route and go into Itinerary and view each step but no idea how to actually start it. Any ideas?

Bike with GPS seems to want me to create a account to use, no idea why.

Also any other apps worth looking at (I am using iPhone 7+)?

Thanks,

Dave

That website seems to be having problems.

EDIT: Seems to be working now again

I have just ordered from these guys, will update when I have tried them out -

I went with the Tornado.

EDIT: Scrap that, they are out of stock. They are sending Storm instead.

Re: Runcorn is a nightmare until 2017

Quick update on the Mersey Gateway crossing.

The new bridge is now open (opened on the 15th). You can't cross it via bicycle, you have to still use the Silver Jubilee Bridge. The old crossing is closed to vehicles but still open for pedestrians and bicycles.

Not all the roads/paths are fully open yet so can't help with directions. Also around the old bridge will no doubt keep changing due to them working on it now for 12 months.

Will update if I find anything new out.

EDIT: Read update on 1st post 16-04-2020

Remember FaceTime is only free if you are on wi-fi, if your out and about then FaceTime will be using your data if you make a call on it.

Re: Decathlon's 365 Return..

I bought panniers from them and after several months decided I wanted bigger ones. I went to the store on my bike and was carrying around with me my old ones, found some new ones and they said give us your old ones and we will knock the money off.

I was amazed, there was nothing wrong with them but they didn't look no where like they did when I purchased them.

I didn't know you could get USB chargers for camera batteries, I also have Panasonic cameras.

Re: Sunglasses for cutting down glare??

I use Orange lenses in mine, paid about £30 from LBS. They came with Orange, Yellow, Clear and polarised. Loving the Orange, so not tried the Yellow yet.

Only problem I have it because everything looks so nice in the mornings I keep stopping to take pictures, then remember it's because of me lenses.
