al_yrpal wrote: 21 Sep 2023, 3:56pm Leasing cars? Thats not green at all nor is buying electric ones (largely fueled by fossil fuels, and as for the batterys largely made in China. :( ).

All that CO2 spewed out by the car industry and the notion of changing your vehicle every 3 years has got us where we are now. China still builds a new coal fired power station every week to satisfy our bad habits. Tidal wave of cheap Chinese electric vehicles built using fossil fuels looming on the horizon.....

Foot well and truly shot in...ignorance is bliss.

As Rishi said please explain how ordinary folk can afford the £5000, £10000 or £15000+ needed for that heat pump (which probably wont keep your home warm anyway?) But, give it a few more years development and practical effective heat pumps will hopefully be developed. In the meantime pragmatism and honesty are all we have got.

Al

ps as for my bum, at least I dont speak through it like some here
Electric cars that are charged by fossil fuel generated electricity are a lot more efficient and cleaner than petrol/ diesel powered cars

Get up to date with China's ongoing plans to move away from coal, its been a long time since China was building three coal powered
stations a week. They were needed to modernise their depressed economy and they are now pumping billions into new cleaner technologies .

Making up three prices for heat pumps isn't necessary as you could have found out with a few seconds effort.

Like you said ignorance is bliss....

Hi Al

Are you really telling me that the Daily Telegraph is a source of unbiased, reliable information and that the emergence of fascist groups in Europe justifies ditching any concern for the poverty and inequality in the world, caused, to a large degree, by avaricious Western governments?
No, the DT is biased, but so is the hard left Guardian (although they falsely claim they arent). Its a fact that the UK is largely anti immigration but at least we dont have openly racist political parties which are growing like right across the EU. I am concerned that we dont give any help to dementia sufferers and their families. I watched my wifes Gran, my mother, my brother and my wife all suffer this dreadful disease with practically no state help at all. Contrast that with the help afforded to immigrants. It doesnt bear thinking about and it doesnt make sense.

Al
The Guardian is hard left ??? That made me chuckle. ..

If you really believe being an immigrant to the UK is a bed of roses where cash is thrown at you willy nilly I suggest you go and talk to people who have made those arduous journeys and the reasons for it . It's a sobering experience.

The state of the health service has been seriously worsened by the large numbers of non UK born staff that have left the country to work somewhere where their skills are appreciated

. Add to that Brexit sent the message that we have chosen to become a pariah state and thus become somewhere only the desperate want to come.

On top of this the Government is full on lying about the whole stop the boats thing in an attempt to keep the far right voting for them at the next election as the swing voters in the middle ground want nothing to do with what used to be the Conservative party..

They aren't forced into boats on French beaches are they? Surely that is a choice they make. They could just walk inland and make their way to a French city, or Belgium, Germany or wherever, but instead they take what looks to me like a much more dangerous option..... I find that perplexing.
Only a tiny percentage of those who enter Europe seeking asylum end up on our shores. Those that do usually have contacts here or speak English better than they do other European languages.

Sadly the British are now attuned to believing outrageous lies about 'others' that they will believe any old rubbish.

Ah Brexit level equivalence ...

Climate change involves us ALL reducing our energy uses . But if an excess is to used then those in need have to have a greater call on those resources.

But in the West all most people care about is blaming other people while doing little to nothing to reduce their own excesses/

Pop-quiz Al, which parts of these officers' uniforms show up best against this foliage?

Image

It's contrast that matters if anything does, and unless you can guarantee the background, or change several times in to alternative kit on any ride, you can never be sure that whatever colour you have is the thing. So rather than try and second guess a ride's colour scheme and indulge in some victim blaming for those who don't dress accordingly, perhaps better to realise that a person shaped/sized object on a bike should be seen by any driver paying attention and driving to Highway Code 126 whatever they're wearing, and all the bets are off whatever they're wearing if the driver isn't looking where they're going properly.

Pete.
I instantly saw a group of police officers, what did you ?
The fluorescent parts show up perfectly fine and outside of a photo would show up even more strongly.

Not a great example though and somewhat demonstrating the point above. Pepsi is mostly water and I'm sure we all know there's better ways to transport that. Even when it's bought from a fast food outlet, it's transported there in syrup form and the carbonated water added in-house.
Pretty much all soft drinks are transported as syrups and water added closer to the market.

It is a good example of a new technology being applied in the real world, where Northern Ireland to Dover isn't seen as an insurmountable barrier to development .

What's lacking in this country is a forward looking attitude instead of pining for an made up past.

With forums nowadays mostly filled with older white men who have already wrecked the environment and who are unwilling or unable to change their precious lifestyles you get a very distorted view. . In places with a younger audience it's a different story with people willing adapt.to the challenges ahead and a growing hate of the damage done to the world by ICE's.

Re: Who would drive an EV ?

willcee wrote: 12 Aug 2023, 10:28am So, in my reply generally not having worked my way through all the contris, is coming from someone who has/had extensive experience in the motortrade latterly in the trade association and looking at the market as a whole more especially in Ulster, where unlike many parts of the UK haven't the population or infrastructure to support any other form of transport than motor vehicles. no train no bus route etc etc and we're being shoved by civil servants and their masters the government who know as much about the whole business as a dog knows of his father..full E ,city stuff yes, distance no.. hybrids yes...
Prime example, everything we wear , eat, ride on, is transported, and powered by fossil fuels, either diesel, petrol ,black ship oil, or kero, and to the best of my knowledge no-one has yet come up with a E truck that can do a Northern Ireland to Dover trip carrying a normal 20ish tonne payload, without a stop , not tacometer regulation involved..a truck guy recently told me they are bothered to do a trip of 100 mile empty, so surely practicalities need observation before we listen to any more crap, yes, Nirvana is a goal, but its a bloody long way off when you see the likes of the major euro makers pulling back from E power a few weeks ago...
E isn't the answer, China has the worlds largest supply of one battery ingredient , really ...could you see the USA cowtowing to them for juice making stuff..Toyota and Mercedes are still working and have been for 40 years with Hydrogen, there are still massive costs involved in that route..we just cannot stop fossil fuel for many years without a miracle, and they are a long time happening...will

Excuse me if I'm incorrect but isnt the spacing on 11spd cassettes identical so the neutral service motorbikes only have to carry one style of wheel ?
