Re: Argos Vs Atlantic Boulevard for paint.

I've tried this - it was a disaster!

Essentially, all three coats, base, top and lacquer have all got to match, chemically.

Rattle can paints react with just about everything!

You get what you pay for with paint!

Re: Argos Vs Atlantic Boulevard for paint.

Yes, its automotive quality paint. Its by far the best finish I've ever seen.

Local frame builders use them near exclusively, about as good a reputation as you can get!

There's a guy over on Retrobike making bespoke aluminum and even titanium versions.

I've lost the link though. :(

Yours is the BSA IGH hub, a patent later taken up by Sturmey Archer.

Circa 1954

Re: The original cassette hub?

Didn't Cinelli have a cassette hub in the late 40's, the Bivalent?

Selbach patented a similar system in 1932, but not as elegant as the Italians!

Re: Major Nichols find - valuation help needed please

Its a nice frame let down by the rusty parts.

If you could get your lbs to replace the rusty bits i think you could probably get 250-300 for it, but no more.

Its not old enough to be a true 'classic' but a nice bike from a reputable builder.

Giod luck!

Re: Argos Vs Atlantic Boulevard for paint.

A really good paint finish, if looked after can last 15)20 years.

I have an original enamelled Holdsworth from 1954, still going strong and not a spot of rust!

Re: old Italian frame

They're not bad frames but a bit heavy

If yours has chrome look after it as they rust very easily.
