Here's a couple of pics of the install showing cable run and slight overhang, not a problem for me.

If this works for me i may well get some better calipers to improve the braking. This was a trial and to add bling for fun👍😁

Carlton green wrote: 3 Dec 2023, 7:40pm Thanks, that looks very tidy. I note the additional plate on the brake mounting.

On my computer screen I’m able to expand (magnify) the view to show smaller details.
I had to do that to use short reach calipers. I just used some steel angle and cut and drilled to suit. They are also supported by the seat stays for added stiffness and seem to function ok.

Re: Improving bottom entry side-pull brake performance

Hopefully pictures added.

Seems to be lots of room for feet / legs etc. Not much improvement because i went for bling rather than performance

Re: Improving bottom entry side-pull brake performance

Hi,

Ive just changed a bottom entry for a top entry on my Claud Butler Mixte. The original and innefective bottom entry was on the top chainstay tube. There was a brake bridge on the lower chain stay / what would be the dual top tubes on a mixte. I fitted a top entry on the top top (for want of its proper name) a;llowing a top entry and a nice direct cable line.

Sorry if the descripytion is vague. I don't know how to add photos but if the OP wishes to PM me I'd be happy to email a picture.

I hope that helps,

Re: Is there a waterproof head covering

Hi,

I prefer a over helmet solution, they are not as hot on your head as a skull cap. You can get proper cycling ones at usual inflated prices, I bought a quality shower cap from somewhere like boots for a fraction of the cost. Works brilliantly.

Hope that helps :)

Re: Raleigh Flyer

Hi,

Ive got a few old Raleighs, Claud Butler and a Dawes, imho they all ride very nicely. However you must remember thier age, the brakes, gearing etc will/can work fine but they won't compete with a moderm machine.

I enjoy mine for nice scenic rides and taking it easy.

I have a similar bike to the flyer, the Raleigh Equipe, basic tubing and components but as a package it rides better than it should, better than the sum of the parts.

Enjoy it for what it is amd you'll love it :D

All the best and enjoy the bike,

Paul

York was very busy when we were there, probably didn't help.

Re: The way of the roses - Aldwark Bridge closed - UPDATE

Hi All,

Update following my TWOTR ride that I finished yesterday.

There is a suitable diversion using a footpath just before the bridge. Have a look at this link
https://wwyork.org/2020/06/16/aldwark-bridge-closure/ as seen in an earlier reply. It shows the OS map with the footpath and bridge.

Be aware this is a footpath and therefore we have no rights to cycle. most of the path is beside a golf course and used by buggies and would be easily rideable. There are a couple of gates that are easy to get through with a bike and the bridge at the far end is also used by buggies and therefore totally suitable for cyclists - the entry and exit to the bridge is a bit sttep and has gravel, therefore care is needed.
After the bridge we joined a road that run paralell to the river and back to the other side of the closed bridge.

We only saw 4 pedestrians who were friendly, we obviously haven't ticked the locals off yet :). Therefore please be considerate of other path users, as I'm sure we all are, so that we do not make this un useable by other cyclists.

One last comment: I had read that the route is well signposted, IMHO it could be better, most is good but it is very difficult to follow the route in some places, particularly in York - we wasted and hour trying to find signs and then resorted to google maps to get us back on route. Having said that we had a superb ride, the route is superb:) Riding west to east over 3 days we found the second half of day 1 was the hilliest, day 2 morning hilly but not as bad, the rest of the route was very picturesqe with pleasant rolling hills.

Thanks for the previous replies and enjoy your rides.

iandusud wrote: 8 May 2023, 10:54pm I rode that way a couple of weeks ago on the day the bridge closed. As stated there is a footbridge a little way to the north and on the other side you can pick up a footpath. I was with a few other cyclists and we rode it. Perfectly rideable (of course not strictly legal). Only a short diversion from the normal route.

Thanks, this is what i was hoping to hear so i can stay mainly on the route 👍

Re: The way of the roses - Aldwark Bridge closed

Thanks for the replies, looks like we'll be taking the footpath. I don't want to annoy any locals so we'll walk if there is anyone about and ride it if safe / sensible to do so.

Brilliant info.

Thanks all,

Re: The way of the roses - Aldwark Bridge closed

Hi pwa

The good news is that any diversion in that vicinity is likely to be flat, so a few extra miles won't be an ordeal.

Good news :)
