Simon L6, Regulator & others to many to mention I owe you an apology, here was me thinking you were opposing the view of council but as you weren't edited or removed I must have read all your post wrong and you were supporting council all along!

it wasn't a quarter of the membership, it was a quarter of the members who could be botherd to vote.

Moving to this thread as a whole - would we being having this disscusion if the vote went the other way?

Edwards wrote:Jimmy I will not lower myself to comment on your tone. To my best belief I have never made a reply to so.

I was stating a fact. I can no longer afford the CTC fees.

If you open your post with a quote, or part of a quote, from another post then are you not replying to that post? and did you not open your post with a partial quote from Karen Sutton?

As to your other point people who treat me with respect are treated with respect.

Re: The CTC - is it vulnerable?

So the fact that we have only 20 more members now means a heck of a large number have either move out of the area or have simply lapsed

Edwards wrote:Maybe like me they can not afford the CTC subs and are switching to the cheaper BC.

Karen Sutton wrote:It makes no difference whether they ride with a group, they still appear on our list simply because they live in our postcode area. It is the full member database for our area. I'd have thought you knew about that system.
We certainly don't have that many members riding with our group(only about 50). If they don't want to appear on our database they can ask to be moved to a different one.

Why would I "know about that system"? Because Barry was a councillor? funnily enough we don't sit around talking about each others database systems so I know as much about the CTC sytem as he know about my company system.

Also I was commenting on Edwards comment not on your complete message so please wind your neck in and don't jump down my throat everytime I post something here

Re: New members wanted - Teesside - Sunday rides

cranky1 wrote:O K this has been on here for a couple of weeks now and to date 27 people have had a look. As there have been no replies or extra bodies at the Sunday rides I can only assume that there is interest from people looking to have a bit of company while out for a ride but are put off by somthing (perhaps its my picture-very off putting I know)in the details. If this is you then let us know where we are going wrong. The ride lengths can be shortened in fact they are in the Autumn in fact your suggestions on how to attract new members to our little group would be most welcolme.

I don't live in Teeside, but if I did one look at the distances and speed would be enough to put me off.

One thing you have to do, is cater for the new member who is not as fit as the rest of the group while at the same time ensuring the members still have the type of ride they enjoy. What we do here in Swale CTC is when there is a long fast ride one of the slower members (me) leads a shorter ride, it seems to work although sometimes I'm all alone :( in that case I nip back home to bed

Maybe if you offer a slower, shorter ride and either do a fast ride if no-one shows up or at the end of the slow ride those who prefer a fast ride can carry one.

Regulator wrote:I've been approached by a number of members who, in their experience, believe that the Chair should have voted to maintain the status quo, given the very clear divide. This is what would happen in many other organisations.

How could he vote for the status quo? He wasn't using the Chairs casting vote he was using the votes given to him by members to vote for or against proposals as he saw fit, when he actually cast them is a different point.

In the event of a tied vote a Chair is not bound to use his casting vote to maintain the status quo but it is deemed good practice to do so.

Regulator wrote:But then again, your view has been very clear for some time.

As has yours, and most of the other contributors to these threads, but while I am prepared to listen to your, and other peoples points of view, you seem to prefer these little jibes to try and belittle my point of view.

Regulator wrote:I think that it is important to point out that motion 8, which was the motion as to whether CTC should become a charity or not, was won only because the Chair exercised his discretionary proxy votes in favour. Prior to that the vote was clearly against the proposal.

It's also important to point out that, in the same situation, each and every one of us would have done the same thing :!:

Re: Is there going to be cross toasting at the dinner?"

Cross toasting is a tradition at CTC Annual Dinners, so why ask?

I assume his reply
"Not discussed it but I hope not"
means he will discuss with the members attending the dinner, in any case just stand up and do it because if you don't the precedent will have been set and another CTC Tradition will be lost

No. It is a statement of fact that if you give the Chair discretion on how to vote in relation to the charity proposal, then he will vote for it. It isn't a secret - everyone knows he is 'pro' the charity change.

There is no mention of giving the chair, or anyone else, discretion in your original post so maybe you need to amend your original post to calrify that point

Regulator wrote:Hi charming

If you want to vote against the charity proposal, you should clearly mark the 'Against' boxes next to motions 8, 9 and 10.

You can nominate one of the London Councillors if you wish (I'm one of them) rather than the Chair - at least that way you'll know they'll vote as you want. Further details here.

Get your facts right please Kevin is an employee therefore is not elected!

The councill are elected and it is they who make the final descision not Kevin, although of course like all CEO's he will have input to the descision making process but at the end of the day it is the counillors, your elected representatives, who make the final descision
