Lost Lock & Heatorch between Hartford and Houghton Thicket

Just wondering if anyone found a headtorch and d-lock around that way.(Cambridgeshire) :(

I can understand someone pocketing the headtorch....but a locked d-lock?!!

Re: Motorcycles using cycle designated parking

I remember trying to warn a motorcyclist with a very nice bike it might not be advisable to park his motorbike locked to the Huntingdon Sainsburys cycle parking area, mostly cos people would be more likely to scratch his bike. He seemed to take it as a threat from me!
It's tricky with motorbikes, you really do need something to anchor it to, my friends CBR was locked and alarmed in Cambridge at a m/c park but was presumably lifted into a van.
In St.Ives, Cambs we mostly have about 1-3 spaces taken up by done in cycles with advertising boards on them for local shops, God that's annoying.

Re: Appeal For Cyclist Attacked On Camera

Does anyone here react violently, whilst cycling, to grumpy pedestrians who swear, right or wrong? Do hop off and smack them, aim your bike at them?
Why is it almost excused if you are in a car?

We'd all be on a pedestrians side who pointed out that you shouldn't be cycling on the footpath, and you'd showed utter disregard for their safety, they caught up with you and you had the nerve to knock them to the ground, oooooh it would be a Daily Mail field day.

I can understand a natural reaction to a disregard to your safety, but when you are protected by a metal shell...and someone...just...swears at you?

But I have met quite a few drivers of Audi's who really can't cope with a cyclist/lesser car holding them up...for anything.

Re: Fed up getting abuse from other roas users

I think it would do wonders for car/cycle/lorry relations if they brought back those old info films that they used to have, you know, green cross code, get yourself seen, belt up.
But with the newer cycling information, so motorists don't take cycling further out as a personal insult/arrogant cyclist. We could have better education on how HGV's see the road/take corners.
Lets face it, most people haven't looked at a Highway code since passing their test so would have no idea how things have moved on, tv is the best way to reach people, that or on all booze/fag wrappers!

I think his show Top Gear quite fun especially the specials. I dont have a car and not in the slightest interest in them but he and his other 2 presenters make the most boring of subjects fun.

sorry all you haters here, seems like you dont know tongue in cheek when u see it.

Well he might be being tongue in cheek whilst using a mobile phone and driving, he does make me laugh at other times.
But I imagine most of us have met this type of driver on the road, the ones that chuck their car at you and mention road tax/the cycle path/you were in the middle of the road, so I had no choice but to overtake/skim past you into on coming traffic etc etc.
Maybe it's down to all the motorists that can't take a joke and bloody act on it.

Found: Cycle accessories in St.Ives Cambs.

If anyone has mislaid an important bit of equipment, I found it in the town centre near the bike racks this evening. If you lost it you'll know what it is. :)
Pm me.

Twice I've come across guys with two barrel shot guns, not broken but ready to go, one on cycle network 51, one on a country road. You hope they are just a blood thirsty farmer.

Re: Do you drive as well as cycle?

Yes, well, motorcycle. But I do love dumping all drivers into a "you lot" category in a cycle/roads/car discussion. When someone asks me what I mean by it I say, "you known, your lot, all you mobile phone driving, disabled cash point parking, speeding, boy racer, pavement parking, amber gambler, 4x4 nazis you know...YOUR lot"
But usually only after my lot are all RLJing, pavement riding & ninjas.

I thought that too TBH. No one carries a HC unless they are expecting confrontation??

I can understand why you would though, I did think about it myself after having several drivers just make up rules or quote rules according to the daily mail or wikipedia. It's not that they tell you you're are wrong in conversation at the next lights say, no they try to run you off the road or intimidate you then make up some rubbish about being pedal slapping distance from the kerb or riding on the path by the road....that may or may not be a cycle path, because they THINK it's in the Highway code.

Fortunately I got his reg plate and called at the local nick to report him. During the interview the copper taking the statement made a point of audibly muttering the guys address whilst writing it down on the report and then leaving me for a few minutes alone with the paperwork.
Might have been my imagination but I got the impression it was intentional (he didn't mutter anything else of use although he did mention the guy was 'known' to them and was one of the local 'vermin'.)

Kwackers, I'd say about 15 years ago, a police officer did the same, a lad on a scooter 'bumped' me on purpose whilst over taking me on my bike, they out right told me where he lived! The Police were very keen to talk to him too.

Re: Cambridge-St.Ives Guided Busway/cycle path

This site sometimes has good updates on the state of the path/buses.
http://travellingtheguidedbusway.blogspot.co.uk/

We cycled it on boxing day, so you could walk up by the rails and have no fear of being smacked by bus mirrors or what not. That's the highest I've seen it, almost up to the rails, at least 5 feet deep and St.Ives to Fen Drayton had small stretches of tarmac you could still cycle on.

Anyone ever cycle the Thicket path from St.Ives to Houghton? Christmas day had knee high water and fishes swimming in front of my wheel! That's due a lovely new upgrade starting this week(finishing in March), I hope they make it a bit higher/improve drainage on that while they are there. (when you get to Houghton lock you can swim across the flood plain the Hemingford!)

Re: Taxi driver stalks cyclist

Apparently the taxi driver was given a harassment order by the police and it looks like he might loose his taxi licence from the council.
Taxi driver lied to the police about the cyclist making rude gestures, the cyclists video backed up that he hadn't.
So, he could have been in bigger trouble.
