Yes, both types.

Re: M2.5 bolt

Second thought - I have several M2.5x12 cap head screws which you could cut down. If you really want a slot head then I have 25mm long. I also have a solitary nut which could be fitted before cutting to clean up the thread afterwards.

PM an address and I will put some in the post.

Re: M2.5 bolt

A possibility - buy M2.5 x 5mm cap head from Westfield fasteners. Head has 4mm diameter. https://www.westfieldfasteners.co.uk/A2 ... _M2.5.html

basingstoke123 wrote: 11 Mar 2024, 7:15pm Do 'private roads' have public access? A 'user' will often not know the difference.
Not necessarily. I recall a case back in the 1970s where police stopped a clubrun from entering a private road. Riders pointed to the bridleway sign, but the police obviously did not understand the difference (bridleway access was won by the CTC in 1968/9) and turned the riders away. A complaint was made to the chief constable, and a suitable apology received.

Re: last second ebay bidding

If I want something, I wait until a minute to go before entering my bid and then wait until the last 5 seconds before committing it. This is not fool proof since I can be beaten by sniping software or by a previous bidders higher limit.

Re: West coast France tour April 2024 camping

It is well worth detouring inland in The Parc Natural Regional du Marais Poitevin where there is a huge network of tiny brooks and roads. Very attractive, a bit touristy in places (photo is one of those), and with many campsites. I have stayed at a couple of municipals. I have crossed the area a few times, always a bit inland and away from the coast, so no immediate comment about your route.

Re: touring gearing ?

The Massif is nothing like the high mountains. I toured there (saddlebag and barbag) three times with a bottom gear of 36 front 26 rear, mind you I was only 40 years old at the time - and that was a long time ago.

If it pleases you to change your gearing, then go for it. Only you can judge whether or not it is "needed". New bits can always be justified :D

Try searching the Tourist information office for the town of interest. They often show campsite opening periods - e.g Quimper which shows lots of commercial sites and the municipal in this link https://www.quimper-tourisme.bzh/campin ... municipal/

SOS Talisman. https://www.sostalisman.co.uk/ I have been wearing one for over 40 years, contains ID plus emergency contacts and much more if you like. Not only for cycling, but for walking to the shops and all the other occasions I would otherwise have nothing to identify me. Far cheaper than a smart phone and positively miniature by comparison.

Re: CUK Mebership Card

As an option, yes. As the only way to show membership, no.

Since I (and others) have no wish to invest in a "smart" communications device I am quite happy to produce my plastic life membership card when required on the vanishingly few occasions that might want it, such as attending local AGM.

I too was caught out by the name. In this case "sprint" is only a model name for a 700C wired on rim and not a sprint rim as we know it for sprints and tubs.

Re: Music on the turbo trainer

I use an ancient version of Sandisk Clip Plus. New types are available for about £40, or plenty second hand I imagine. My old one has a sort of belt clip so it can be clipped to clothing and so does not need to be stuffed in a pocket. I bought it many years ago for touring, but now it is used on the turbo for my infrequent sessions.

Re: When Using Navigation Devices Do You Loose The Overall Perspective of Your Tour?

An extract from a Jura tour report by me several years before GPS routing devices became a practicality -
"It got exciting a few times where the minor roads became very minor indeed, to the point of being farm tracks. One day in a very heavily forested area I became a little confused in an absolute maze of tiny lanes. I had to think “if I head east, keep the hill on my left and do not descend anywhere, then I should get somewhere useful”. Sure enough, I came out only about 5km from where I should have."

Just think, modern riders following a pre programmed line on a screen would have missed that excitement.

I do not like following a pre ordained route because ideas of quite which road I choose can change during the day, and a little screen gives me little appreciation of what lies around. One year I joined a group who had such a route, and I would have found it strange not knowing quite where I was except as a dot on a screen. Fortunately I had a paper map so I had the larger picture to keep me comfortable.

These days I have a Garmin, and I use it to find a supermarket or cafe, and just once I used it to confirm that I was not quite where I thought I was on almost parallel forest tracks..

Re: Front mech.

Similar circumstance. A conventional front mech shoehorned in place. Cable is routed through the noodle, under the bottom bracket and back up to the mech. A clubmate with the same frame has used a top swing mech with the same cable routing. Both work fine. My mech is very close to the fat main tube, but if there was insufficient room I could have fitted a smaller ring than the current 52.

I strip anything like that into different materials. It means that plastic etc do not end up in the scrap metal at the tip. Never enough to make it worth selling, but I have FUN doing it.
