Steepest residential street?
Re: Steepest residential street?
Good question.
Been there .......... at the top, but never gone down.
Been there on my bike at the top ............. but never gone down into the village.

Stuttgart is in a deep valley and the roads curve and loop so they are not so steep. Instead of steep streets there are hundreds of Staeffele, staircases leading from A to B. Great for a change from cycling and no motors of course.

Percussive maintainance, if it don't fit, hit it with the hammer.

Rowland Hill in Kidderminster, even mick f would never get up it!!
Re: Steepest residential street?
Never been to Kidderminster.
Sounds like a challenge!
However, if I Google it, all I get is a flat road through a shopping centre.

Fore Street (high street in Cornwall). Some good ones in the back streets of Fowey too. In fact all around that area.

[edit] Just noticed that the Beeb article said "England". Oh well....
I'm struggling up Gold Hill in the rain and on slippery cobbles. Had to stay seated as too slippery and lost traction when out of the saddle. There's a technique to riding up hills like this. One needs to balance their weight to ensure you have sufficient over the rear wheel to avoid wheelspin and loss of traction and at the same time keeping weight over the front to stop the front wheel lifting. On that day I was the only rider from the club who managed to ride it from bottom to top without stopping.
At the last count:- Peugeot 531 pro, Dawes Discovery Tandem, Dawes Kingpin X3, Raleigh 20 stowaway X2, 1965 Moulton deluxe, Falcon K2 MTB dropped bar tourer, Rudge Bi frame folder, Longstaff trike conversion on a Giant XTC 840

Maybe they excluded Monks Hill for having woodland rather than housing on its centre section.

I think you are entitled to a chapeau!
BTW, what gear were you using?
Ferrit worrier's link is interesting in that only one of the streets in the list is shown as steeper than 20%. It raises the old question about how they work out gradients on road signs.
Re: Steepest residential street?
Only 22% ???The inhabitants of Vale Street, who have a near 22º gradient to contend with, have every right to look down on the competition.
I can easily find 25% hills here ..........
Here's one. Church Street in Calstock with cottages both sides. It's so steep, Google Streetview couldn't do it
