Lomo dry bags - views?

Post by Sweep »

I think Andy Miller may be a fan but have heard differing views.

How to you wise folk rate lomo's dry bags?

As here:

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/lomowatersport/

Prices are definitely keen.

I suppose I am wondering how they compare to ortlieb.

I have two ortlieb rear panniers and two front ones and an ortlieb small dry bag and am basically happy with them.

But how is lomo's stuff?

Please note - I am not really interested in "light" "modern" dry bags - don't trust them to live up to my use.

For "normal" use I'm ok with the cheap Karrimor ones? Have one in my commuting bag (on the Carradice Bagman, so it does bounce and rubs a little) and after one year I cannot see signs of deterioration?
I suppose you are after something proper water-tight and highly resistant to abrasion?

edit: that Lomo company seems to do different types of bags, from unspecified "RF welded waterproof" to "taped ripstop", so I'm not sure which type would compare to Ortlieb.
It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best,
since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.
Thus you remember them as they actually are...

Am after ones that can just be chucked on the ground in the open while I bivi and ones that can stand up to my somewhat brutal bungeeing. Have no concerns about ortlieb on this score. Just wondered how lomo compared.

I have some of the heavier Lomo bags for sea kayaking and the are strong. Quite thick and stiff tho.

Seems pretty well made stuff, I had a look around their shop a couple of years ago, bought a 40l drybag but haven't really used it yet!

They seem to be developing a range of cycling stuff, http://www.ewetsuits.com/acatalog/Cycli ... html#a1118

This bag looks like a decent rack pack or even as a saddlebag mounted somehow to a Bagman or Classic Carradice rack, http://www.ewetsuits.com/acatalog/dry-b ... l-bag.html

Their cycling glasses look pretty good too at £15 for a three lens set, http://www.ewetsuits.com/acatalog/cycli ... rised.html

Lots of product videos on their youtube channel, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1Ph5S ... nxXaXkE44g

Lomo are a great company. When they first set up, I bought a 60l drybag/rucksack for canoeing from them. There was a batch with faulty straps that tore. Mine was one. Swiftly replaced and a new one sent out. I still use it without any issues, years later. It does go stiff in really cold weather. But so do my Ortlieb panniers. I also have a pair of neoprene booties. Great quality. Value? Exceptional IMO.
