Cycling in the Yorkshire Dales

No apologies for this blatant plug.

Just published by Cicerone Press is my latest tome, Cycling in the Yorkshire Dales. Available from the publisher and the likes of Amazon who also can do a Kindle edition. As the publicity blurb says:

Not in stock at Amazon but have added to my wish list.

Hoping to get up their for the Tour de France, so would be ideal as I have never been before.

Hope you can make it. There is a real excitement and enthusiasm about the Grand Depart up here

Would suggest getting here a few days before and get some rides in - it will be buzzing!

Accommodation is tight unless you have friends to stay with or are camping as there are lots of pop-up sites just for the event

No apologies for this blatant question without buying the book.

Which buses in the Dales carry bikes? - I only live 10 miles from the Dales National Park and cycle there a lot so am never going to buy the book - but I'd like to know about bike-carrying buses.

There are no buses that I know of that will take bikes & I've done a lot of looking. If there are any I would be delighted to know

There used to be a "dales" bus that had a trailer specially for bikes & if I remember correctly it started in Leeds and made its way up to Grassington and possibly Malham on summer weekends. No doubt someone will remember with correct details. When the service was "improved" the trailer disappeared

Northern Rail out of Leeds will carry up to 2 bikes free of charge but you cannot reserve a place, its first come first served and the conductor can refuse access for operational reasons

This may not help but it does clarify

No, I didn't think there were (but your initial post tantalised me into thinking there may be something). It would be good to occasionally get a bus to get to the other side of the Park for a slog home initially down the roads I don't get to. But that 'occasionally' says it all, there wouldn't be enough occasional riders wanting to do it to sustain a regular service.
