Hi All,
I've just fitted a SA dynamo hub (6V 3W 70mm hub brake) to my trice QNT(2007).
It needed a little modification to the kingpin/axle.
i.e. I shortened it by approx 5mm inside and cut a slot in for a locking washer to stop the axle turning.
Rerouted the power cable so that it comes out of the END of the Axle and sealed it with silicone instant gasket.
Also removed all the nuts and spacers, this gave me enough threads to use two half nuts for holding the wheel on and to lock it to prevent it working loose. Also used "Locktite medium" stud n bearing fix as a bit of "belt & braces"

The light's are "AXA 70 lux" front and "AXA riff steady with standlight" rear, they start to work from about 1.6mph and stop flickering after a few seconds.

Patrick at ICE told me they are still waiting to hear from Sturmey Archer about longer axles.

That the traditional SA, not their stub axle one?

I have one of these systems but haven't fitted it yet, but I did read some good reviews before I bought.

These are easier to set up on small (16"-24") 36 spoke wheels (Equal spacing) as there are three sets of magnets to fit at a 4" diameter.
It is also problematic on 26"-700c or even 29er as the spokes are further apart especially for 24 or 32 spoke.

I had to mount mine at 3" 3/4 on a 26" 32 spoke wheel slightly uneven spacing BUT it works! 8)
More for "being seen" but does light the unlit road's better than the old 80's & 90's battery lights.
NOT for high speed decent unless its a Kamakaze run.

Quick update.

Still can't upload photo's to my computer.
I'll keep trying.

IMPORTANT!!
===========
This only works on the older "STEEL THREADED HEADSET KINGPINS".

If you have the "AHEAD SET TYPE ALUMINIUM KINGPINS" you CANNOT modify it to fit a STURMEY ARCHER DYNAMO HUB.

The newer ALUMINIUM kingpins don't have enough axle tube protruding on the inner side that can be cut down.

Also not viable with front suspension models.(Same problem).
So for the later models we'll have to wait for SA to make longer axle bolts

UPDATE

I've just found out that SA make a longer axle version of the X-SDD dynamo hub.

See here under "Specification".
http://www.sturmey-archer.com/en/products/detail/x-sdd
Model No HDH73.RBLS.AA3 Axle protrusion = 69mm as opposed to 50mm for the standard.
So it should fit on the ICE trikes.
EDIT:
Just confirmed with ICE that it does fit. 8) 8)

Also look in "Parts list" as it shows both LEFT & RIGHT brake plates for it.
Going by that it "should" be feasible to mount it on either side. 8) Or have TWO. 8) 8)

Having two would be the ultimate reason for these. If only they existed 5 years ago...

The good thing is at around £85 each they're less than £15 more than standard SA hubs( £71.99) and the spoke hole PCD is the same. 8)
So a relatively simple upgrade then, lace into existing rims using existing spokes.

It would be a no brainer for me now - a pair of these is still cheaper than the SON I have...

If anyone wants to trade a Disc cruciform and SON+Disk wheels for a Drum cruciform with a couple of wheels and money for these puppies - then I'm there...

Now the next question is, if you're fitting "only" one of these, which is the best side to fit it to?

I'd guess the right for those of us in the U.K., the slightly increased drag would partly counter the effect of road camber on the steering?

I also need to think how to fit a front light with my Streamer fairing...

I'd suggest right - since that's how they are advertised by SA...
