Campsite Reviews - Other

Post by Si »

Add campsite reviews not in England, Scotland, Wales or Ireland to this thread.

Normal review rules apply: just give us the facts, especially if it is a negative review, and try to keep the thread on topic as it's meant to be a resource and so should be easy to skim through. Perhaps we could start each post with something like:

Campsite name: <name here>
Location: <adress / grid ref>
Fees: <£££>
Facilities: <list of cycle-friendly/unfriendly facilities>
Comments: <recommended or not, with reasons>

Venice, Italy
Camping FUSINA
GPS: N 45 25.245, E 012 15.490 (degrees, decimal minutes)

Medium/large campsite with all mod cons including laundry room, WiFi, restaurant, shade, bar, shop. Well run.

The best part is its location. The boat to Venice runs from just next to the campsite and it has its own frequent return. Very easy to get to and from Venice. Sometimes they have noisy groups and a noisy late bar, so suggest a pitch away from the bar area, and of course ear plugs should be standard equipment on a camping tour anyway !

Titisee (Black Forest), Germany
Camping BANKENHOF
GPS: N 47 53.045, E 08 07.759 (degrees, decimal minutes)

There are three campsites in the area, one is up a hernia inducing climb, but this one is easy to get to, right near the little town. It has top facilities, a restaurant, WiFi, a little shop that serves fresh bread and pastries in the morning. Close to forest walks and the lake. Top spot, well run and unbelievably quiet at night.

Camping Rialto (Mestre) Venice.
http://www.campingrialto.com/en/

Just over the causeway from Venice in Mestre.
We stayed in a Cabin (shed) with two beds, a light, socket and heater. We choose a cabin as we wanted somewhere semi-secure to keep the bikes whilst we looked around Venice. Just enough room to fit us and two bikes in at night. There are also static tents for hire.

Good points:
Location: Whilst on a main road the camping section is set back and we didn't hear any road noise. It's a 10-12 minute bus journey to the centre of Venice, 3 euro return (tickets available from the campsite) and bus stops right outside the door. Buses every 20 minutes.

Airport is 8km and an easy ride if you plot a route with this.

Lidl across the road for cheap food.

Covered communal area where you can eat/cook your own food.

Also a small mini-market and bar/café on site.

We stayed two night and there was no noise at night.

Not so good:

Mosquitos, lots of them in the evenings. Wear long sleeves, trousers, shoes & socks and use plenty of deet if you are sitting outside.

No fly screen on the cabin window. It was 37c in the day and 25c at night but we could not open the window due to mosquitos.

The cabins/static tents are packed in. The front of ours was 2 m from back of the next one.

There's no pool.

No toilet roll if camping, one roll supplied with the cabin.

It was busy whilst we were there and they can run out of hot water for the shower. There was a queue to shower at 11 pm, but everyone was having a cold shower to help them cool down!

Campsite name: Campingplatz Trevis, Trier, Germany
Address: Luxemburger Str. 81, 54294 Trier, Germany
Fees: 18EUR (2 adults + a small tent)
Facilities: In addition to good spec sanitary block has washing machines, dryers, entire kitchen areas (including pots and pans) to rent, even secure boxes where you can leave electronics to charge overnight. Bar/grill on site, bread service, two large supermarkets nearby. About 10 mins ride / 30 minutes walk to central Trier. Site is on the banks of the Mosel and the tent field has a great view of the river.
Comments: For a campsite it is a bit expensive but we had a nice stay and would definitely return if in the area again.
