Night Sweats - Homeopathic Remedy?
After intense physical activity (for me that's normally a day's hard work as a gardener but it can happen from cycling) I get pretty full on night sweats. That means eventually I get cold; it's uncomfortable sleeping in damp sheets; nobody else enjoys my amphibious transformation and for the rest of the next day I am shot away because of the effects of dehydration. Nothing is good about it.
A friend who was once a pretty good road cyclist described these events as 'toxic night sweats'.
I did read in a book I have about a homeopathic 'aid' but I can't find the reference now. I don't want to enter into the whole herbal vs pharmaceutical debate right now. For personal reasons, a natural approach is my preference.
Can anyone offer an explanation to these sweats and some sort of natural help? I am male, so it's not menopause to clarify.

Why would you ask a forum of people who are mostly not medical experts, rather than asking your GP?

Since homeopathy is just water it can't hurt...

Place a glass of tap water in your room, using the laws of Homeopathic Remedies you will be cured of everything that is wrong with you wether you are even aware of the condition ..... or not !

There are various illnesses that can cause this. Some can be be with otherwise relatively mild symptoms, or otherwise be latent, for some period of time. So I would check with your GP.

GP. ASAP for blood tests. I had these symptons 40 years ago and it turned out to be cancer in my case. Cold sweats I called them. Not trying to scare you, but be aware. May be nothing more than hormonal but safer to get it checked.

Why ask anyone anything on here? With the exception of maybe you and me, most people are quite intelligent on here, and have a degree of life experience.
But yes, you are right. Maybe my GP should be involved. If only the surgery wasn't so hopeless. I don't go often. Once a year at most. In the last 2 years I visited once for stress related reasons and once for a bad chest infection. Both cases were swept under the carpet.
Thanks all. I guess using the word 'homeopathic' was my inaccurate attempt at encompassing ANY natural aid. Herbal or otherwise. I don't get on well with pharmaceutical drugs.
I asked here because generally most people are fit, but not young and experience bouts of exercise that is 4-6 hours or more.

(+1 to checking it out with your GP - all symptoms can be either nothing very much or pointers to something deeper.)
According to Chinese medicine, the skin is usually a reflection of what is happening in the lungs, but at night the skin also acts to deal with anything amiss in the kidneys and liver. Sweating is a good way of getting rid of what shouldn't be there. During the day, the process stops. So it's a healthy process but reflects an underlying less healthy condition.
As to what the body is trying to cure I would look at stresses on the kidneys, liver and lungs: alcohol, emotional stress, an over-rich diet, other pharmaceuticals, maybe meat (with its attendant additives) if you eat it. Your physical exertion during the day may act as a trigger and leave the body work to do at night.
Homeopathy means "like cures like" so a sauna during the day may alleviate the sweats at night!
NB I'm not an expert and these are just my thoughts.

Being intelligent is one thing. Being informed is something different. Life experience helps with things that are general, but medicine is a very specialised field which requires specialised knowledge. The chance that you will be helped by a thread like this is IMHO quite small, while the chance that you will be misinformed is high. A GP knows what tests to apply given symptoms.

The problem with asking for 'natural' aids is that our society is overflowing with inaccurate and downright dangerous health 'advice'. GPs are far from perfect, but they are MUCH better than asking non-specialists online.

I get quite sweaty at night,as a result I wear my wicking tops. This means greater comfort as I dont wake with damp sheets.
Again not to scare you but I had bladder cancer two years ago, not that the two things are connected.

As ever, google is your friend (!)
Have a look at: http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/night-swea ... ction.aspx
Obviously, you will ignore the links to quackery, commercial pill-pushers, alternative not-medicine etc.

They don't mention that it is a symptom associated with some tropical diseases, as well. This may not be significant to most NHS patients, but it might be to HC.

We could go on forever couldn't we? Hence the need for testing to elimate stuff.

It's all very well and good telling the OP to get tested, but he's already suggested that he gets fobbed off by the doctor.
