Noisy Shimano hollow chainrings
Has anyone else found the newer generation Shimano road chainsets such as 6750, 5800 & 6800 to be noisy when on the outer ring? I'm just wondering if the hollow construction of the ring is acting as a form of echo chamber & amplifying the sound of the chain passing over it.
Re: Noisy Shimano hollow chainrings
I fitted a 6800 chainset to my daughter's racing bike. While I am not allowed to ride this bike I do take it out for a spin to check things after working on it etc.
Haven't noticed any noise different to any other solid ringed chainset I use. Also riding alongside her or with other people with these types of rings no noise is evident.
Mind you I do change chains frequently to avoid wearing out the rather pricey junior cassettes. Maybe with worn rings and chains there is more noise?

I've noticed that full carbon bikes (carbon frameset, wheel rims, bars, etc) sound very noisy. Maybe it depends what you use these hollow rings with.
