Jagwire inners outers brakes cables

Post by Sweep »

Never used anything Jagwire before but doing a build at the moment and came across this which on the face of it seems like a good buy.

Anyone got any views?

They have galvanised inner wires, I dont use them anymore as they tend to corrode one way or the other and get frictional because of it.
They also have a different nipple at each end, which means that you must cut the cable prior to installation. I have not yet managed the knack of cutting clean and sealing cable ends so that they can be fed back into the outers repeatedly, so I avoid these too. I just coil up the excess of cable with the end uncut on cables supplied with just the one nipple.

Nice colours though.

Ah, didn't notice they were galvanised - should have read more closely - thanks - I'm old enough that "galvanised" to me means those old council issue dustbins - looked really nice and cute for a short while, but not for long.

They claim to be both Clarks and Jagwire at the same time! :?

The picture shows outers with Jagwire written on them.

Good spot reohn, yes do report back.

My build is swapping stuff over between two identical (but one very worn) frames - if these are decently good they can go in all their coloured glory on the bike that will be running round town.

By the bye (been looking at some more cabling) what is:

"Steel inner wire with anti corrosion treatment"

likely to mean?

A euphemism for "galvanised"?

Surely stainless steel doesn't need any treatment?

Yep more than likely galvanised though could be Teflon coated but unlikely.
Whichever,SS is infinitely better and you're right doesn't need anything more than little grease on assembly.

They're for a hack bike I'm building,it's a 26in wheeled Raleigh Equator MTB based bike that likely to weigh juuusssttt short of a metric tonne when finished  :) but it'll be OK for nipping, err sorry, slogging to the shops on :)

At what cost?
Not that I'm a skint flint but I don't like paying over the odds for inferior kit.
The link in the OP appeared good stuff until Meic pointed out the inners were galvanised,I'd missed that and ordered them then cancelled because of that, the seller emailed me to inform me they had SS inners with the same outers for £8 more  .
I looked further down the page and found the Clarks ones I ordered which cost £5(with a choice of colours)and SS inner cables they look good kit to my critical eye,if the nipples pull through I'll be severely dischuffed, but I'll risk it :D .
