27 x 1x 1/8th tyres

Post by landsurfer »

I have been given a pair of 27" x 1 1/8"th wheels.
NOS.
Normandy large flange x wiennman concave with chrome DB spokes.
Ideal for my 1985 Raleigh TT bike.
However, the interweb just directs you to 700c tyres in the end.
Some guidance on actually buying tyres that fit would be good.
Dosnt have to be 1 1/8th ".. 1" would be even better.

SJS still offer a selection, some more exciting than others...

I have a new 27 x 1 1/4 (close, but not exact) tyre that I bought ready to use on my bike that's just been stolen. Are you near Leicester? you can have it for free if you want it.

It's not a fancy tyre, just a plain Raleigh branded tyre.

There are some kenda 27x 1 & a quarters on ebay for £12 each, you can also pick up some quite nice lightweight skinny 11/8 and even 1" or even rarer 27x 3/4 for that authentic 70s/early 80s racing bike look

Cheaper than SJSC

(Dutch, despite the .co.uk URL, so check postage)

In general, the choice of 630 (27") tyres is decreasing, and I'd expect to be able to get only 27 x 1 1/4 within a few years, apart from hunting out NOS

It's worth trying Wilko's. I saw some 27 x 1-1/4 tyres in there recently.

Bankrupt Bike Parts normally seem to have some in stock - at the moment they're offering 27 x 1" and 27 x 3/4" (yes, three-quarters of an inch). See http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PAIR-OF-27-x1 ... 2296065462 for instance. I've ordered a few things from them before and the goods have been as described. I just wish they'd work out how to turn the CAPS LOCK off...

The Continental Supersport 28-630 is still being advertised as avaiable by SJS, Wiggle and Chain Reaction, and no doubt others. SJS have the folding version of a Pasela tyre in this size.

The cheaper Ultrasport seems to be out of stock in this size at W & CR.
