Is there any way to extend an 86.5mm bb shell to 91.5mm?

Post by Facemanuk »

Hi

Apologies in advance if I'm being really stupid here but I'm attempting my first build and I've hit a major stumbling block.

I'm attempting to fit a shimano XT M8000 crank set to a Genesis day one Alfine di2 frame. However what I've discovered today is that the bike bb shell is 86.5mm (road bike) and the crank set spindle is 91.5mm (mountain bike).

Obviously I should have realised this before now but to save me having to go back to square one, does anyone know of any solutions or aftermarket spacers etc to extend the bb width? The bb is push fit btw.

Help!

Thanks, Paul

In such case, you could fit spacers in the crank axle. 24mm spacers can be found, but I would be careful about the resulting chainline: you can play with the spacers lh/Rh but may end up with the cranks being quite offset. It may well be that the Lh pedal stays too far out.

Not an ideal solution, you should really stick with a road chainset, especially because you will use only one ring, I suppose
It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best,
since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.
Thus you remember them as they actually are...
