Once upon a time before web forums, there was a rec.bicycles newsgroup on Usenet. The participants created a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) about cycling and bicycles. I understand it had many worthy contributors, and the snippets I have found online are certainly interesting (e.g. scroll down to “Subject: 8.24 Brakes and their various forms” on this page).
Does anyone know what happened to that FAQ? Is the latest version available somewhere?
What became of the old rec.bicycles FAQ?

Sheldon Brown’s site has links to several rec.bicycles.* groups, now hosted on Google Groups. Try having a hunt there, or asking – rec.bicycles.tech still seems fairly active.
Re: What became of the old rec.bicycles FAQ?
Brucey: that does look pretty good. Seems to be from 2004. Perhaps that’s when updates ground to a natural halt.
JamesE: rec.bicycles.tech is still fairly active but the signal-to-noise ratio seems to be very low. Perhaps still worth a try.
Thanks, both.
The FAQ is showing its age, of course, but that is part of its appeal to me. The historical context interests me.
