If you fly over India China and observe all those brown coal power stations belching out more and more crap and greenhouse gases it brings it home how our 'Green' efforts are so puny. That said I do think we should blaze the trail on sensible environmental measures.

So it's OK to be upto the neck in s*** because everyone else is?

Taking that to it's logical conclusion we'll never be clean

Yet another reason to use Merino wool :D

Oh, good point! Though presumably only if you use pure merino, not the "sport wool" which is mixed with synthetics.

Careful, you are on what used to be a Cycle Touring site here. :? Many of the brown coal stations have no effective desulphurisation or electrostatic capture kit and last I heard they were building one a week.

Reuse, recycle, thus do your bit to save the planet.... Get stuff at auctions, Dump, Charity Shops, Facebook Marketplace, Ebay, Car Boots. Choose an Old House, and a Banger ..... And cycle as often as you can......

I only read about this phenomenon today on Treehugger.com, but it's been public news for a few years. It really is extraordinary how great our capacity is to muck things up. It seems odd that microbeads are being banned, yet synthetic fibre fragments are just as bad, but nothing can be done. A filter in the washing machine would be overwhelmed at each wash. Maybe we need diesel particulate filters and a little chimney for washing machines? As someone has already posted, it's back to ventile jackets, merino wool tops, and tweed.

I am going to be buying more natural fibre clothes in the future. I presume that cotton, bamboo, linen, etc. aren't such a problem.

Be wary of bamboo clothing. Bamboo just happened to be the cellulose feedstock for the process to turn it into viscose.

I personally prefer to wear fabrics re-cycled from drinks bottles ... or ' Fleece' as their known .... Everything we wear will have some negative effect ... it's just the way it is .... :(

The problem with cotton....it's cold
.... bamboo wears quickly
.......Linen is constantly creased
.........wool producers create a lot of sh*t is difficult to wash
Now pass me that fleece :D

The more serious problem with cotton is that it uses a huge amount of water to grow it. Linen is better from that point of view and quite possibly even wool.

Hemp - twice the yield from the same land usage and half the water per kilo.
And no you can't smoke it.
I have a hemp polo shirt, if I didn't know different I'd think it was fine cotton.

Yes, good point, and no, you can't. Well ok you could but it would be like smoking cotton. I don't know about the feel though, I don't have any hemp garments; I had the impression it was rougher, more like canvas, but I guess that's down to the weave, just as it is with cotton. Unfortunately it still has a hippy/alternative/punk* image that stops it going more mainstream.

*Yes, hippy and punk! Neither trust either of them, they both smell! (etc etc)

Cotton is OK if there are a fair number of layers.

I think Corbyn undoubtably has his faults, but I'm fairly sure he's not capable of singlehandedly destroying the entire planetary ecosystem, and he's definitely not intending to do that.
