I always warn horse riders that there’s an unusual bike passing, and give them a wide berth. Not had any particular problems with spooking the horses so far. I don’t have a flag though.

Similar. I think the care and advance warning are the crucial points.

Flags? One of those things I have often been vouchsafed that I'm surely Invisible and Doomed without on a 'bent, but I've never used one and the only people that obviously haven't seen me were equally obviously looking somewhere else.
