The article isn't really about boring races; it's a bit unfortunate that the editors chose that as the headline.

(one could argue that the article is actually about selling Dan's book :P )

There seems to be quite a few cyclists retiring relatively early in their careers.

I think the economy is having an effect. Quite a few having to retire earlier than they would like due to not being able to secure a new contract. Alex Dowsett is one that comes to mind.

More riders chasing less places on teams and having to contend with a new generation of very talented young riders like Vingegaard, Pogacar, Van der Poel, Van Aout, Pidcock and Evenepoel.
