Happy to see it mooted that a good way for the government to recover the loss of VED and fuel tax income as more EVs hit the road is to increase the taxes on heavier and thirstier vehicles. Gets my approval :D

What is a typical turnout in city parking charge referenda?
You need to specify "in Paris". And also make allowance for uncontrollable factors such as weather. Whatever the answer is, clearly if, in Place Z, a referendum on Topic A attracts a turnout of say 50% and one on Topic B gets a turnout of 5%, Topic A is considered for more important.

So just over half of the less than 6% who could be bothered to vote, voted in favour.... That equates to 3% of the electorate voting for a change. I suggest that if that change proves controversial, another vote may be on the way, with the electorate woken up and participating in a more active way. It sounds to me like pretty poor engagement with the public, for whatever reason.

The increased charges don't apply to Paris residents, so likely most people didn't care about the referendum.

Not exactly SUVs but it looks Ike the rise in those huge double cab pick ups that now roam our streets as private cars will soon be curbed.

"Drivers who use pick-up trucks for work and personal use are set to pay more in car tax under changes being brought in by the government.

From July double-cab pickup trucks will be classed as cars rather than vans, bringing an end to a tax loophole that saved drivers money.

Double-cab pick-ups, such as the Ford Ranger and Nissan Navara, have grown in popularity in recent years because their dual-purpose attributes mean they are suitable for being a working vehicle as well as for personal use."

Sorry but it appears the decision has been reversed by the government. They are back to being cars again sadly.

It looks as if it's special pleading by farmers. The Prime Minister had a speech today...

That's a pity, there are a good few of these ridiculous vehicles on the road just for the reason of paying less tax. I know someone who hates his and would much rather have a car, but having a giant monster truck means he pays less tax than he would in a more sensible more economical car.
