gives me hope, I always think I will be passed it by 70, but may be not. and 70 is not that far away, esp the speed time is going these days. I'm hoping to get me and my bike past the 100,000 mile mark by my 70th then the two of us retire - lolEnigmadick wrote: ↑19 Feb 2024, 8:08am Read this to discover why;

I suspect he is very right about keeping the weight off, I could do with knocking the best part of a stone off, its just too easy to eat. Interesting to read about the diet, it has always been the way I do it (I never knew it was a thing) miss out 1 or 2 days a week and then eat normally on the others. Although I don't fast for an entire day, always have my porridge in the mornings (900kCal) and then fruit only. Must try a whote 24 hours with just water.

I'm 75 this year so not long to go. What's performance!!
I just enjoy riding my bike as long as it isn't raining. Get to a hill. Too steep, just get off and push. Only do 25 miles so what.
My only gripe with a number of cycling mags is that they do focus on performance but I expect that is what the majority of the readership wants.

Some of us just ride for pleasure and are not interested in performance. However top marks to him, it obviously makes him proud of himself. For myself I am just pleased that I rediscovered cycling in my 60s and now fit and reasonably healthy in my 80s I can enjoy it so much. As for dying I am not planning on doing that soon, too much to live for and to enjoy in our wonderful country.

Reuse, recycle, thus do your bit to save the planet.... Get stuff at auctions, Dump, Charity Shops, Facebook Marketplace, Ebay, Car Boots. Choose an Old House, and a Banger ..... And cycle as often as you can......

Although this is very much not my area of expertise, I think that having absolutely no calories for over 12 hours has beneficial effects on the gut (and hence the body overall) that aren't realised by merely eating a bit less.
Things come out when the other things don't!

I would point out the average cost of a funeral will hit the £5 k mark in the 10-40 years. When we on this forum on avearge will pop our clogs.I'll go to your funeral if you go to mine.
I am going to opt for the CHEAPEST and greenest solution.
I am going to be ecologically and be COMPOSTED.Waste money on a funeral.Bah! I could come back as a tree.

Like you I am aware that I am not too far from reaching 'that undiscovered country from whose bourn no traveller returns'.briansnail wrote: ↑21 Feb 2024, 12:01pmI would point out the average cost of a funeral will hit the £5 k mark in the 10-40 years. When we on this forum on avearge will pop our clogs.I'll go to your funeral if you go to mine.

I too have been thinking about the greenest method of disposing of my body. It seems to me that cremation must contribute my embodied (!) carbon directly to the atmosphere, whereas burial or indeed composting would incorporate (!) it into the general carbon store.
I would welcome comments on this.
I would love to be carried to my final resting place on a bicycle trailer, followed by the funeral party on two wheels, but I hesitate at such an imposition, when I will have lost all interest in this world.
It's the same the whole world over
It's the poor what gets the blame
It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?
