No, not going to the wrong place, in fact voted best National independant garage three years, I said MIGHT need, I just got unlucky a few years so was adding in to my costings. I don't need to worry about it as it hasn't been on the road for over 6 years so.axel_knutt wrote: ↑5 Mar 2024, 8:57amYou're going to the wrong place if they're failing it that often.

I had a pair like that, Maxxis Xenith Equipe Legere's in a 23mm, stupidly grippy in the corners as you said, with latex tubes it was asking for trouble (I used Conti Supersonics) as you could feel the rubber scrubbing off the tyre as you went but my god they would fly. They made Conti 4000 tubs seem like sluggish rocks!rareposter wrote: ↑5 Mar 2024, 5:54pm
I had some really rather expensive tyres once that had "road race use only" written on the side and they were only good for a few hundred miles or so - maybe up to 1000 on smoother tarmac.
They were however very very fast and ridiculously grippy - could lean them at really quite extreme angles and they'd hold on perfectly. Which was also why they wore out quickly - very soft compound.
I got mine at bargain basement but still mile for mile hundreds of times more expensive than a std car tre, but still much, much less than a competition F1 tyre which is what the equivalent would be.

Don’t fret, it’s OK to: ride a simple old bike; ride slowly, walk, rest and admire the view; ride off-road; ride in your raincoat; ride by yourself; ride in the dark; and ride one hundred yards or one hundred miles. Your bike and your choices to suit you.

<off_topic>Sometimes when out walking I think about the cost of my walking boots and the number of miles people generally expect them to last and they work out rather expensive on a per mile basis</off_topic>
(Walking boots that fit me well, last pair I ended-up having to buy direct from the manufacturer in Italy as the few UK suppliers had no stock or were selling unboxed ex-demo at full RRP price).

Like a lot of other things in the bicycle industry - over priced for what they actually are. People always try and have reasons/ excuses for the prices, but in all honesty, it's a rip off. Like groupsets, frames, clothing, etc

My Continental Grand Prix tyres say "handmade in Germany" and cost £45 each. I wouldn't countenance cheap car tyres. For my current car, tyres are about £180.

I'm just mourning the passing of the old PlanetX - not the new one - used to be very easy to get good tyres for under a tenner - Brucey I believe got some far cheaper - though had to settle for brown.
We will not see their like again I fear.
