Re: Scotland north coast 500

A few years ago an American friend phoned me to say he was "doing yurp" and could we meet up. Eventually I worked out that he was coming to Europe: 5 capitals in 5 days. That was Yurp sorted. Met some Americans last year who had flown to Paris, stayed a few days, hired a car and driven he...

Re: What tent material

This all came about because of a pyramid tent so quite a lot of fabric. It stretched 4in on the guys in the wet therefore the dynema guys weren't much help in a gale. The tent flapped about way too much. Yes, I made sure that all the guys were tightened last thing at night and of course that helped....

Re: What tent material

After a disappointing experience with a sil/nylon tent stretching when wet to the point that the guys were useless I'm looking at other tents and importantly the fabric. Want one that doesn't go limp (oo, matron) A generalist comment, but over the years of using all sorts of outdoor kit I've found ...

Re: Archie's Camping??

Download the country (eg UK) as a GPX (or whatever format you need) from the Archies site. Import it as a GPX file into your mapping program. For me that's Osmand on Android phone. Turn the GPX file on as a route. In Osmand this brings up the sites as red stars overlaying your map. Then, if you want...

Re: Cycling to Berlin via Holland

You're post may be too general to answer. Perhaps read some bike blogs. There's plenty around with lists of kit, budget, charging phones from dynamo, routes etc etc.
Try looking at the Eurovelo website specifically EV2 Holland to Berlin section

Re: Scotland north coast 500

It's motorhome madness. Lots of them. Horrible. Because of a major mechanical on a trike and unable to cycle further, we retrieved and loaded up the car and continued on our chosen bike route and found ourselves on parts of the NC500. I'd hate to cycle the main route as it's ruined by inconsiderate ...

Re: What tent material

Here's what Vaude said when questioned about the Chapel tent fabric "thanks for your email and your interest in VAUDE tents. Our technician just told me that all models made of Polyester don't stretch." Not exactly a clear answer. My take is that this material does stretch. The warning of ...

Re: Camping Pillow

Thermorest Down pillow. Stuffed at the rear with down jacket (as in Scotland recently). Add in a fleece under the pillow and all in a half size pillow case. Decent sleeping bag on an Exped down mat with just the right amount of air in.
As good as my bed at home.

Re: Fitting bar bag at side of ICE Sprint seat

If you fit oversized balloon tyres and adjust the mudguards to fit then they can hit the handlebar bag when you steer. Solved by tilting the arm but it's not a good solution. With regular tyres there's no prob. Guess how I know?

Re: Balloon tyres

50 x 406 BAs worked OK with the mudguards on my 2011 Sprint 26 and were significantly more comfortable than Marathon Racers or Trykers. Can't really comment about puncture protection with the BAs, but agree with what [XAP]Bob said about Trykers, especially as they seem to get tougher as they age. I...
