I dont live or pass through the area - so I dont really know what the problems - if any are - but it does seem that it is a strategic route - important for the area and the SW as a whole - HE have been tasked by the politicians to come up with a solution - they have - £1.60Bn - up to the politicians

Im a bit ambivalent about the whole thing - it seems that often that conservation for conservation sake rather than driving our knowledge onwards seems to dominate - with £1.6Bn on the table there will be plenty of opportunity for pre studies and monitoring -lots of noses in the trough - in this day and age of GPS, Lidar et.al documenting what is found to an accuracy that it can be recreated for analysis should be a given

well not if they are going to charge you some barmy amount (quite common these days) and because you've turned up late, and may seem a bit in a of corner, a "move on" from your enquiry might seem (to them) to be a bit sad.

I dont think ive ever been charged over the odds for arriving late - in fact when cycling it is often the opposite - no charge

That said in late evening there's nothing better than cycling along perusing the landscape / fields / verges looking for that ideal wild camping spot...just in case.

If you cycle through large areas of woodland in Europe in late summer/Autumn there are often crowds of people out with their baskets fungi collecting

Death toll in France I believe is around 30/annum - safer than cycling?

I'm depressed by people being depressed by people on e bikes - last couple of years that I have toured in Holland and Germany in the summer being overtaken by hordes of "older people" on e bikes having fun - whats not to like

Re: Brixworth Farcility

To the best of my knowledge the Pitsford Reservoir loop has never been predominantly black

As to the little cycle track - there was never any intention to include cycle facilities in the bypass construction - the Bypass was constructed sometime in the early 90s before the BVW and the Pitsford loop was a "thing" - it is likely that the little cycle path was put in sometime late 90s early mid 00s as way for people to access the Pitsford loop from the BVW without going on the road - (im not going to comment on its merit) likely that it was country parks money

pwa wrote:One scenario that may fit the facts is if the people who constructed the highway were informed, prior to construction, that the people who own or lease the land either side of the new road planned a cycle track, and for some reason that track never happened. Maybe hoped for funding did not materialise. The road builders did their bit while they were putting the road in, but the neighbours didn't. That must be close to what happened.

I bought this Coleman one today for a tenner from Blacks -

Which model is that smiffy? They do several that look similar - all on sale at Ultimate Outdoors (Blacks is part of that group) at the mo and an extra 20 per cent off with a code.

No idea I thought they were all the same - just different colours - I've used it most days for the last 6 weeks - perfect for what I want - tent erecting/things in the tent and roadside - nice diffuse wide beam - don't actually need to be looking directly at things to see them - usable economic light on low - good and bright on high but eats batteries - and didn't turn itself on when packed away

(As opposed to the mega lux one that someone was setting up a tent with last night next to me - was blinding me through two thicknesses of tent and with my eyes closed - words were said :) )

Depends on where you are talking about - west of the watershed it is brilliant - they were resurfacing bits last year - east of the watershed then it's OKish to Castelnaudry - from there you are better off taking dire t roads or following the Herault signs to Adge - I've always been a bit surprised that the whole thing hasn't been made more off - however they have had to cut a lot of access roads in the eastern we took to facilitate tree felling and replanting so I suspect there may be some major improvements in the next few years

Edit - read it and signed it - if it did become joined up it would make a good route for a lot of people
