Re: Steel mountain bike frame advise

I recently, and very luckily, obtained a Dawes 1-Down (pre-Sardar). More expensive than a Galaxy originally. Very Sherpa/Surly type of thing, but from 1991. Reynolds 631. Brilliant. I love it. What a find. Hen's teeth. Good luck. BTW, my mate, currently doing Mongolia-Beijing-Edinburgh (!!!) loves h...

Re: A bit of a ranter about sale section

Anyone want to buy my old saddlebag...?

Perhaps the mods might consider not only censoring the "c" word and the "f" word, but the "T" word too?

Re: A bit of a ranter about sale section

That, Sir, was not JUST any old saddlebg, that was my WIFE! I would sell to first dibs. I would prefer to buy/sell from/to someone with some sort of reputation... That said, I posted some hifi cable once, sold on PinkFish hifi forum, to a chap in France before receiving payment- he did cough up as p...

Rebuilding a wheel using old rim/new hub?

Having read some previous posts (always recommended  ) I see the error of a rebuild using old spokes. So... I'm OK with a new hub, new spokes and the old rim??? :? I'm doing it myself as my first ever wheel build... a long time ambition. I have the hub already, just need to buy the spokes (55p...

Sometimes condensation combines with that white powdery alloy corrosion to make a paste, but that has a gritty texture, more like mustard...

Re: My name is....

Hi Si, and thanks for sharing. My name is Sweaty and I'm an alco.., sorry, a SPD addict. I am unable to get as far as the shops, 1 mile away, without Spuds, as we addicts call them. When I've tried, I've found myself in the gutter, as so many times before. Sometimes a ditch, or a hedge, but mostly t...

Re: What sort of quality is Suntour Edge?

Right- that's decided then... build on the Edge  thanks.

I blame the MTB thing for a drop in Shimano quality- parts are disposable, not rebuildable. No one can be bothered and fewer of us have any skill to repair things... when I were a lad...

Re: What to do with patients who don't wash?

Thank you for a stunning response- and I am encouraged by the variety of what is thought to be necessary or desirable. My OP is an increasing dilemma faced by many working in care. In the good old-bad old days, say as recently as the 80's (1980's !) very unwell folk, usually under section, would be ...

What to do with patients who don't wash?

Be gentle- this is my first visit to the tea room... I am a qualified psychiatric nurse. Of 25 years experience. Times change, yes, but do people have to stop washing? Even the mentally ill? I have a duty of care. I also have a duty not to let a person harm themselves. What does the assembled...

Re: Posture problem

As well as snibgo's comments regarding core strength improvements, for the setup problem you could try a shorter stem. 13cm is pretty long* (although at one time I used to find that every rod bike I looked at was like this - these days makers seem more attuned to the fact that people prefer a bit o...

What sort of quality is Suntour Edge?

I have a oldish Suntour Edge hub- lovely thing, very slightly used that I was going to rebuild a wheel on, replacing a worn Shimano Alivio cheapo front hub. How good is the Edge in quality terms? Better than the Alivio I'm sure, but should I just shell out (hub pun there!) for an XT? Is it my imagin...

Re: Odd old Dawes? 1-Down? What is this?

I've just returned from my first ride out on the One-down :D What a smashing ride quality- even on the elderly 1.5in ChengShing tyres (Maxxis now?). Very sprightly, handling my local hills admirably, unlike its rider  Getting used to the bar-end shifters meant that on the way home, within 200y...

Re: 700c wheels

Sorry, only one :D English is not my native language, and for some reason my spelling checker didn't like "wife's", so I changed until it didn't have a red line underneath... I am Scottish, so its ( or it's?) not really mine either... Hey ho... could be worse, could be German... (f...
