Re: Car Drivers Using Mobiles

I have a set of photos emailed to me by a USA pal, which show the result of a head-on collision between a small car and truck whilst the driver of the former was sending texts. Maybe if these were shown on TV it would provide a deterrent. I can pm anyone interested but strong stomachs are definitely...

Re: Car Drivers Using Mobiles

Without knowing a driver's tel number how do you establish he was using his phone. If a driver is interviewed later I'm not aware of any power to require him to give the police his mobile phone number. Or even if the driver sgives the police his mobile tel no. How do you know the driver does not ha...

Re: Car Drivers Using Mobiles

Of course you need to know the tel number of the mobiles concerned. Did you give the police this information? It's not really necessary to have this because as soon as a handset is used on any network the imei or handset serial number is automatically recorded. In the same way that if Joe Soap uses...

Re: Sit bone pain from a Leather Saddle

Thinking about the cycling days of my youth (Oh so long ago) , with B17 on Dawes Super Galaxy, my sitting position was more on the bit betwixt bum and gonads, NOT on my seatbones, and very comfortable for all-day riding. These days, with Brooks Flyer on Santos Travelmaster, I have a more upright pos...

Re: Car Drivers Using Mobiles

There are safeguards in place tp prevent the police accessing mobile phone data without a very good reason. As far as I know to investigating the location of a phone can only be done either if there is concern for the safety of the owner or in the case of serious crime. I don't think mobile phone u...

Re: Saddlesore problem...

I've sort of come to the painful conclusion (sorry!) that this is age related, as when I was in my 20's and 30's I cycled many thousands of miles on a standard B17 without padded underdungers or strides, yet now - in my 60's - a few days on a Brooks Flyer gives me saddle sores.

Re: Car Drivers Using Mobiles

I spoke to the police about a driver on his phone who followed me for some miles. I had the time of use, the area in which the phone was being used and the vehicle registration number. The police said without an independent witness my information could not be used. Until there is an effective deterr...

Re: What do you do with panniers..

The Altura Arran panniers have an upper tab which locates onto the top tube of the carrier at 90 degrees to the pannier. This would effectively stop someone quickly removing them - unless they were aware of this facility of course. I usually have my tent and poles well strapped down on top of the pa...

Re: Dahon folders, opinions?

I bought the Dahon Vitesse 7-speed (derailleur) for my wife and I was really impressed with it. Folding was quick and easy, the bike was very light and the gears seemed low enough for moderate hill-climbing. I also got the rear carrier for it so a rack-top bag would easily fit and possibly panniers....

Chop off their hands. Totally agree. Saudi Arabia has the right idea. I wonder how their figures for theft stack up against ours? Real or reported? Criminals do things on the assumption they won't get caught. It's long been shown that the only thing that increases is the effect on innocent p...

Re: Touring Shoes

I bought these shoes from Lidl some months ago and during a recent cycle camping trip used them on and off the bike. They were very comfortable and although perhaps a bit heavy, they are well made and feel like they will last for years. As you can see, they will take cleats, but I used them with cli...

Good for you eileithyia, and I hope that as a result of your action these low-lifes get what they deserve. A visit by the England cricket team to get some batting practice on their scrawny derrieres perhaps?
