Re: P-38 build
I've put the P-38 up for sale as a frameset plus extra components and accessories, so it's in the parts for sale section here. I'm not a great fan of the seat and the closed riding position although both have their merits. And the BB is a bit higher of the ground than I would like perhaps.

P-38 recumbent frameset Large with extras
I've decided to part with my P-38, some photos here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/7LJAXC63GxQCKRDbA
Link to maker's page, https://www.lightningbikes.com/p38/index.html
It's the Large size with the all carbon fork and is shown with a 26" (559) rear wheel. I found the seat a bit too high with a 700 wheel but I have shorter than average legs.
I'm offering this as a frameset with brakes, mudguards, seat bag and kickstand included (but not the titanium rack). You'll need to add wheels/ tyres and transmission (crankset, BB, pedals, derailleurs, shifters, cassette, chain) to complete it. A new frameset alone with shipping, duties and taxes would be around £3800. I'm asking for £1900. Can provide further details etc. You'll notice that I've reversed the riser and fitted Bacchetta tweener bars. These provide more cockpit space and allows the use of standard brake levers rather than customised curved ones.
The bike is located near Portsmouth. Viewings welcome. I don't have a box but will consider delivery/rendezvous in most of Southern England and the Midlands following payment.

Re: War on Our Doorstep: How do we respond?
So, who watched "Ukraine: enemy in the woods" last night? https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m ... -the-woods
It really brings home the realities of conflict faced by these young soldiers. They are dying out there defending their freedom, and ours. I was very moved by their young female medic, a trained vet. I'm sorry for the Russian conscripts too, but they are the iinvaders. Damn Putin. I''ve made another donation to the DEC Ukraine humanitarian appeal.

Incompetent as well as vicious (having seen how badly beaten the 4 defendants are).pete75 wrote: ↑25 Mar 2024, 1:28pmThey warned of a likely attack in the 48 hours following March 7th. The more interviews I hear with Russian defectors the more I hear them say the only way to deal with Putin is tell him that if he wants war then that is what he'll get. We need to stop backing off.

Re: ...a safe way to turn a bike over
Usually tapping the brake lines gets the bubbles out of them. Tilt the bike fore and aft to help. I have a step through eBike and some maintenance needs it to be inverted.

Re: BEVs
Yes but, no but. I've lost touch with how expensive new ICE cars now are. The gap with BEVs has narrowed. It's being pointed out that there is near price equvialence between a Dacia Spring BEV and a Hyundai i10 ICE. I guess the difference lies in the used market where the majority of UK private buyers operate. Those with a £5K budget won't be looking at electric for some while to come.Carlton green wrote: ↑19 Mar 2024, 7:14am
If the tax breaks were taken away then BEV sales would plummet - the tax breaks are there for a reason. It doesn’t take a genius too to realise that the current move away from ICE cars wouldn’t happen without legislation, people wouldn’t buy electric cars if they weren’t forced to and likewise manufacturers wouldn’t need laws that tail down production of ICE vehicles. It really isn’t rocket science .

Re: BEVs
Thanks. I think my current Skoda TSi turbo is group 9.Carlton green wrote: ↑18 Mar 2024, 7:39am Insurance costs!!!
Insurance groups for BEV’s seem to start at group 9 and go rapidly upwards. I checked a second gen Leaf out and it’s group 21.
https://www.cinch.co.uk/electric-cars/c ... -to-insure
One could be excused from thinking that BEV’s were toys for the wealthy and the business expenses driver. Why are these cars so expensive to insure? In part because they are so expensive to repair, so subject to non-repairability, so heavy (heavy cars do a lot of damage) and so powerful.
I've been watching video reviews of the Silence S04 with it's removable batteries and admiring the design. A number of reviewers after test rides have described it as sporty and it seems well finished.

Re: BEVs
Yes, I think that and the consequential insurance costs are now the main issues preventing me going down the BEV route.Nearholmer wrote: ↑16 Mar 2024, 9:37amVery much agreed. See my previous rants about this very same thing.Anyway, if our political leaders want us to use BEV’s then one of the things that’s needed is cheap and easy repair and replacement of battery packs. Manufacturers aren’t interested in allowing cheap and easy repair and it will require legislation to change that poor state of affairs.

Re: Hill Starts - E-assist not helping
Generally I've found the standard Wisper walk-assist sufficient help to get going on slight inclines, but that's after lowering the gearing to make a 42" first gear which is still rather tall for a loaded eBike. I engage the walk assist carefully (brakes off) and as it starts to strain I push off with my left foot and push down with my right.
