High Peak trail

On Wednesday, just in time for Easter, the bridge over the B5056 Longcliffe to Brassington road was accidentally demolished by a big truck. It will have to be completely rebuilt. Difficult diversion as it means leaving the trail and getting back on around cuttings and embankments with little normal ...

Re: Butterfly Handlebar - Recomendations

Recently I changed my flat bars & bar end combination to North Road bars for my trikes and bike.
More natural position for town riding as my cycling is all utility now.
Easy to swap even on the trikes. Also looks more in keeping with the age of the frames, circa 1953

Re: Filling in the holes in pedals after cleats removed

My Shimano shoes came with the covers. I had to remove them to fit the cleats. I've not seen them sold separately.

My Higgins trike has axle & steering grease nipples. As well as the Dualco grease gun I have an unbranded pom-pom grease gun like the photo which is easy fill & doesn't leak. I keep it in the toolbox.
Seen suppliers marketing a Kennedy branded one for under a tenner

Re: A Misguided Badge of Honour?

Currently the local Cross Country rail service on the Matlock line out of Derby is closed for the Derby Station upgrade. Replaced by a bus service along the A6. I wanted to avoid using the car to see Matlock Bath illuminations (as the parking is so bad), then cycle home, all downhill. Nothing stops ...

Re: Opinions on Decathalon please ....

Used their Nottingham store next to IKEA to get away from the meatball crowd. I needed tubs and tape for my trike spare wheels. Found them on the shelf and track pump parts. I had to return one tub with a faulty valve. No problem to exchange.

Re: time wasters on forum when selling

Other forums reduce the file size automatically. Also using an Android device can occasionally fail. There are Android phone apps that can reduce file sizes. I used this last time. But it is still all clunky even after 40 years of using computers.

Re: time wasters on forum when selling

Posting pictures on the forum isn't easy as some computer knowledge is needed to reduce the file size to under the limit. Off-putting for some seniors. I tried four times in the last year with one bike. Sold easily elsewhere . Blunt "reminders " about posting pictures, then no further inte...

Re: spreading rear stays - mixte

I got Jacksons to spread my mixte before they resprayed it. I was worried about the complicated lugs. In the past I have used the metal rod system, very scary to over spread the dropouts and forks. So I got the experts to do it

Re: Slick tyres and skid risk: is this true?

I fitted City Jets to my city bike for use in York. White lines and metal covers were very slippery even in the dry. Sudden changes of direction on cycle paths and at junctions led more skids than on treaded tyres. All my bikes/trikes have Marathons. Used more now on High Peak/Tissington/Monsal trai...

Re: compulsary bells back on the agenda!

In Holland I used the two tone bells on my Gazelle which sounded polite . I brought two home for my trikes, though they are on sale here. They sound melodious & less aggressive on the railway trails shared with walkers here in Derbyshire. Better than the lycra clad warriors shouting "Coming...

Re: Tub tape not inspiring - add glue?

I was new to tubs earlier this year for my trike. I got given two wheels with Higgins hubs for my 1953 Ultralite, mainly as spares for a vintage trike. Two cheap tubs from Decathlon with tape worked well. Removing all the residue from gluing and a wipe with solvent helped the tubs to stick. Preferen...

My 1953 Higgins trike has grease nipples on the rear axle, BB and headset. Later Rogers trike doesn't have lubrication points.
