Thank you all.
I can now go out and ride by another of the set. Need not have moved down to Cornwall, still there have been some interesting bits in the last eight years. The postcard shown in our local paper was neither of those above.
All that now remains is to find out why the drawing/mat was entitled Deviock. It is not exactly well known, on the other hand Patterson did produce a lot of drawings of pub interiors. That last is of course pure conjecture.
The only other mistake I have heard of was that he drew a number of home interiors for Heals of the Tottenham Court Road and Mr Heal had to point out that his rooms all had four sides.

Re: Deviock Cornwall?
As the originator of this I can add a bit more.
The artist is Frank Patterson who some may know well.
It is his normal signature and dated 29.
It is part of a table mat set of four.
Whilst copying it in our local library our librarian said he had driven the “mobile” in the area for 13 years and had not seen it.
Later on in life Patterson copied from postcards. Some years ago the local paper published a collection of postcards recently sold at auction. The centre one was the bridge scene. No cyclist which was a typical Patterson addition.
I visited the the auctioneer with mat etc. and asked if they would put me in touch with the buyer.
They wanted to preserve client confidentially . I made various suggestions as to how this could be done but no success.
Whenever I see an opportunity I try it, will be interested to see what emerges.
Have a feeling some of you may be finding Patterson for the first time. Have fun.

Re: Shimano 105 STI shifters: causing arthritis in fingers (and bad at braking)
I have both varieties of Arthritis.
I once owned a Shimano equipped Cannondale for two days riding. I found that when I braked on the tops, a normal practice for me, that the lever tended to twist inwards and backwards. This caused pain in both thumbs.
As I had bought the bike I persevered, riding for 6-7 hours over 2 seperate days.I could not stop the effect and went back to my bike with down tube levers.
Finding out about Ergo levers with Shimano 8 speed I took that option.Ten to twelve years later I am comfortable with three plus bikes set up that way , although my arthritis has worsened
Additional, I am informed that Ergos are reparable.

Always understood that there was sideways play built into top jockey wheels, but not bottom.
Will go and try in a bit.

10,11,and12 sprockets except for Moultons, Bromptons etc. Realise the cost may increase with a reduced manufacturing volume, but it has not increased with their introduction.

Re: Bike designs which should be binned
British Racing Green was a pale colour. It was part of an international set of agreed colours for racing cars. Only other one I can remember was silver for Germany, perhaps blue for France and Red for Italy.
You occasionally see pictures of silver Mercedes cars in the thirties and fifties. Stirling Moss was driving a silver sports car to win the Mille Miglia in 1955, which is often shown.
The changes were brought about by what some thought clever marketing.
Also in 1955 I and many others rode single fixed bikes, before the invention of fixies, most of these with only a front brake. As said earlier this was on the left for easier braking and signalling before turning right.

Re: Tony Oliver Bikes Advice needed
I would think that the blue frame is one of his. Brake braze ons, front changer braze on a touring bike. Also you have got to be a real con man to fit his seat caps to your own build.
Surprised by the lack of clearance between rear wheel and the seat tube.
Looks too big for me or I would be up to Dursley, although I have some spare QR axles and spindles.
Cannot think why his advice on specifying and building steel frames could be obsolete. Like Frank Berto the components he talks about are old fashioned(?) but the thoughts behind his comments are worth bearing in mind.
Finally, being steel the next owner can add or delete fittings as they feel fit. They can even remove the seat post if it is stuck more easily than from carbon fibre or aluminium.
Roger.

Re: Rohloff Revolver Chain Tool - need replacement riveting pin
I have used Cyclo for years. I found they had stopped supplying spare pins. I bought the complete tool from Topeak who supply the pins, even including a spare with the original tool they are about £10 - £11.
If any interest, I could measure the pin.

I pay attention to ALL gears.
High ones for downhills and low ones for up them. Various ratios for different hills.
11 to 13t is FAR too big a jump .............. and an 11t cog is too small as they wear out fast. Good job they are cheap to fit. On my 4th now with the rest of the cassette still original.
Have three new 11 tooth in Camelford if you are interested. They will probably be hapily here for another few years if you are not.
