Re: Planet X Returns
I did a return a little while ago and had no issues - could it be your printer? In any event, the bar code is usually only a number, which should be on the label as well, and which can be entered manually by the parcel shop. I was pleasantly surprised that the process was easy and free - Wiggle now charge for returns and, having just sent one back, I had to wait 4 weeks for a refund, and that only after two tickets raised, the second unanswered, and two online chats.

I have one of those Crane bells, but in brass - it makes a lovely and loud 'ping' - I even get compliments from some of those I've pinged!

Re: Building Brompton bikes
I enjoyed it, but was puzzled, as it seemed as if it was part of a much longer programme, given that the majority was about their first female brazer and to a lesser extent a guy in charge of new systems. It does seem to be a one-off. Some of the production figures overlaid as text were pretty staggering, can't remember any now of course, but it seems Brompton have stepped up their game recently and are producing some nice bikes (alongside the basic steel clunker) - 2500 a week it seems, which is pretty impressive. Looking at their website, they also have some interesting short and long term renting schemes (£5 a day, £60 a month, or £45 a month for a 12 month hire). The titanium model looks nice, if unobtainable - the waiting list appears to be in years.

Re: Rapha Core Bib-shorts 1 year on...
I have 3 pairs, plus an earlier version, the Sky branded ones (from 2014!). I've not had problems with any of them, I find they fit me very well, cut for the fuller figure and the laser cut silicone leg grippers work really well. That said, the earliest pair have worn thin and I generally wear them under longs now in the winter to avoid indecency claims, but that's after numerous washes since 2016. I've not bought anything from them for a couple of years - I paid £100 for the last pair, they're now £85 - perhaps the quality control has dropped as a result.

That's a lot bigger than 150m2! They turn over £400m a year, just in sporting bits!

Re: Wahoo ELEMNT app
Mac or Android version? The Mac version was updated on 6 Feb and again on 19 Feb. It seems when they fix something they break something else, it's nowhere near the Garmin scale of things, but irritating nonetheless. I've used Kays Fasteners via ebay quite a lot - good range, happy to ship small quantities and no corrosion problems at all with their A4 bolts on my bike.

ianrobo wrote:Quite funny story as ordered the new Roam with my 17% discount which at 263 makes it a bargain ... told someone and less than 24 hours that was withdrawn from the offer ! Lucky eh !
That's 12% by my calcs. Yes, I saw that and ordered one - Wahoo don't allow discounting and this slipped thought the net for a short time. Unfortunately, the Roam is less than impressive and mine has already gone back - the action on the bottom row of buttons is awful and the RH one didn't really work. Coupled with very laggy software, the maps takings several seconds to render, and other issues, it was all a bit meh, so I'll stay with the Bolt for the time being.

Norton wrote:I haven't used Wiggle for a long time but I recently ordered a pair of tyres. What was actually delivered was one tyre as ordered, while the other was a different model, colour and even size from that ordered. 48 hrs after notifying them of the problem, with back and forth of multiple emails "web chats" etc, Wiggle had still not offered to send me a correct replacement tyre to a definite timescale and it was only after several requests that I eventually got them to agree a refund with return carriage at their cost.
Life really is too short for this messing around over a pair of tyres. Given the amount of time wasted on trying to get a resolution and with my bike still off the road awaiting new tyres, the LBS looks an increasingly attractive option in future. As ever, it’s not so much the problem, though in this case I do wonder if they only had the one tyre in stock, but rather how it was handled. In view of the latter in particular, it will be another long time before I bother Wiggle with my custom again.
Just return them using the online form, tick the box 'quality not as expected' and get your money back in a few days. Pointless discussing it with them when there is a robust returns service available. From 100's of orders over the years I can only recall one error, it's bound to happen, it's annoying but life's too short etc

That's not a very reasonable conclusion.
((edit))
(I'm not going to say it definitely won't work, but they are not claiming it will.)
Hmm, you could be right, that's a bit rubbish . Still, there's always a Wolf Tooth hanger to fall back on.

Re: Shimano GRX “groupset” launched.
The 46/30 will run with the 11-40 or 11-42 cassette using Di2. That's the 'rubbish' I'll be putting on my bike. I don't understand the negativity towards Shimano, even the basic stuff does the job and the better stuff does it very well indeed.

I've used a Wahoo TICKR HRM for a couple of years and been pleased with it. It has the advantage of being both Bluetooth 4 and ANT+ and I've used both with different Garmin, Wahoo and Polar receivers without any issue at all - starts broadcasting both formats immediately it's put on. Still on the original battery as well. Using it with an ELEMNT Bolt and a Polar M400 at the moment (but not at the same time). Wahoo do several free and good HRM apps as well.

Re: Wiggle
Rapha returns are free, but it's not immediately obvious. Wiggle are including their normal discount range on Rapha, so that's a healthy 12% for me at the moment, not that I need anything, but I'm a big fan of their Core shorts (better than the the current Classics, for me).

Road ahead closed
Increasingly Local Authorities seem to be completely closing roads for repairs or resurfacing, rather than opting for traffic management. Whilst detours are usually available, they may not be expedient for cyclists - I was on holiday cycling in Cambridgshire a little while ago with 37 miles done and 10 miles to go, when I found my route closed for repairs. Because of the surrounding fens, the official detour was 43 miles! At best I could only reduce this to 30 miles, not something I wanted to do, as it was raining, getting dark and I'd run out of food. I asked the contractors if I could get through, and they said yes, if I walked (which turned out to be a couple of miles). In fact, part of the road was not even walkable and I had to take to a muddy field. My question is, is there a legal obligation to keep the road open, if only for pedestrians or do the Local Authority have the power to stop all access?
