Re: Germany, May, what are my chances?

Germany in May is an excellent time to go, with weather usually good. Fly to Munich, then train to Passau and continue towards Vienna with the Danube by your side. German Austrian Youth hostels excellent 25 euro per night with excellent conti. breakfast. Private pensions 20-25 euro a night a very hi...

Re: Wizz air bike bag rules

EasyJet no problem, bars turned and pedals off placed in big Wiggle plastic bag. Tyres didn't need to be deflated either. Only thing they did was burst a hole through under the top tube to place a sticker on the top tube. Treated well and placed seperatley as oversized goods and not down the baggage...

Re: P&O Ferries a rip off - go with Sea France

P & O still £13 but thats a day return, £31 for single.
Just buy a day return ticket, give them a ficticious return time for that day and dont turn up.
There not going to put out an APB for you.
Do the same on the return leg on a different day...Do the maths roughly £26 as opposed to £62

Re: Travelling by ferry with a bike

Travelling on a ferry with a bike simple. I just returned from cycling Calais to Paris. At Dover i bought my ticket,I purchased a £13 day return and didnt return, whilst the 2 guys next to me were charged £31 each for singles. Just tell the staff a return time and dont turn up. I purchased a 17 euro...

Re: the adventurous first timer!

Why not try Germany. Fanatastic purpose built cycleways. We took the ferry from Newcastle to Holland and then cycled to Utrecht. Boarded the citynightline with bikes and ended up in Munich. We spent the next 7 days cycling past choclate box houses and on the route of the Romantic Strasse. Some great...

Re: FLYING WITH BIKES

I suppose the more you stand your ground the more accepatable things get.
As for panniers containment, I bought a 60 litre Para bag from Ebay for £9.99
Strong, light and folds very small on arrival

Re: Train travel with the bike, nice surprise

Travelled exstensively with my bike and never has a problem. The diesel 156 (6 spaces, hanging up by rear wheel), 158 (2 spaces standing)and 170 (2 spaces standing) fleet of traction utilised by First Scotrail is good. Reservations are free and advisable for Up north routes, but you can just take yo...

LOCKING HEADSET SHIM

One of the best buys recently was a £3.95 locking headset shim.
It means when tightened I can turn bars for travel , without having to adjust play on arrival.
Keeps forks in place if removing stem and bars,
Simplicity at its best .
youll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Nothing like a good cycle touring book to get you motivated. Alastair Humphries Moods of future joys and thunder and sunshine must be 2 of the best. The Josie Dew books are a always a safe bet and a good read. A look through Amazon, with credit card in hand and you can pick up some inspirational rea...

FLYING WITH BIKES

Myself and Bobs are travelling with bikes on easyjet from Edinburgh to Munich in April. After reading numerous blogs weve decided to chance it and bought a couple of CTC clear bags. We'll turn bars , remove pedals and possibley put bits of pipe lagging around stays. Fingers crossed that they treat w...
