If it is it's too late for me. We've cancelled our subscriptions, though 30 years was a good run. I put folklore and myth on a much higher pedestal than childish untruths. We live by the most outrageous and pernicious myths and call them common sense or worse, logic. I agree with Charles Fort that everything is the convenient thing to wear for a while. Arguments arise when someone claims their 100%, rock solid, you'd-be-crazy-to-ignore-this-offer myth is the only one in town.

A well braced tandem frame descends hills better than a solo IME, because of the long wheelbase. It feels more like riding a motorcycle. If it does get out of shape - and I've only come close when a front tyre blew out on a down hill - flying tandems are not easy beasts to subdue.

My attitude to religion is this. While not being religious personally, apart from liking choral music and the odd fresco, it has become an easy target for those who wish to appear more enlightened than their fellow man. There may be all kinds of good reasons for attacking individual aspects of a particular religion but most assaults are instinctive and by their nature, divisive.

On the level of living folklore I believe religion is important. I'm keen on folklore and the narratives different ages live by and very pro-belief, belief in all kinds of things and feel profoundly that individuals should not be forced to justify those instincts, or be pilloried when such beliefs don't adhere to current fashion. I think of religion in a similar way to pre-Beeching railways, easy to knock, simple to dismantle, impossible to replace and the herald of a load of inadequate and messy substitutes.

The issue is how far club advocates are prepared to fight a management desire to take the club in a different direction. The powers that be have correctly gambled that old school DA types and nu-cyclist reformers added together won't beat the head count of the apathetic and those who use the club as a general insurance policy and look no further than magazine editorials.

My instinct is the current impasse will only last long enough for the next round of propaganda not to appear unseemly. The issue won't go away permanently.

I don't have a problem with Nutsey or trolls generally, however moderators have to accept that having them in residence will elicit responses depending how bored/ magnanimous/ adversarial posters are feeling at the time. IMHO Nutsey thinks most people on this board, and quite possibly the world in general, is older, financially better off, more complacent and less smart than he is. He may of course be correct, in which case ya-boo could be the best way to make his case.

If we're being frank, the problem seems to be that moderation doesn't appear to know what to do with a self-confessed troll, namely one Nutsey and has thrown the debate open to the floor to avoid appearing partial. This has opened up old wounds between posters whereas a simple warning or ban would have nipped the problem in the bud.
Trolls are by nature adversarial and push the boundary of what's acceptable. If a moderator can't tell the difference between background controversy and bare-faced trolling the board is screwed.

Let's talk facts. Kwackers took my general, on-topic point and turned it into an attack on him, presumably because of the stuff he'd been bottling up about my responses to him on some previous occasion. In fact I had a completely different poster in mind but if you read back what he said it ended with him telling me I should get my own board. That's an opinion. My deletion is because you decided to convert my responses to him into a comedy headline, which is unfair and inappropriate.
However I can take a hint and see which way the land lies.

While I have SPD pedals on most bikes I think their advantage over non-clipless types is much overstated. Most of it is fashion.

The forum could also consider getting rid of its Tea Shop. If ever things kick off on a board it's usually in the AOB/coffee bar area, idle hands and all that. Real trolls are easier to spot in the specialist areas, the Tea Shop is usually the place people pick a fight. I don't know why sites have such areas unless it's to indulge bored minds.
