Catlike Whisper Helmets

I have a very small visor on my Catlike Whisper helmet, (yes I still have it Mick!), I am going to take the visor off, however I have lost my two rubber grommets that one uses to fill the visor fixing holes.

I have googled for hours, contacted Catlike and come up with a resounding nowt! Does anyone know where I can get a couple of these rubber grommets please?

Re: CO2 Pump advice needed.

I second the innovations co2, fantastic bit of kit that inflates my road tyres to rock hard in a matter of seconds.

I always carry two tubes and two co2 cannisters and a tiny Lezeyne pump in case I get three you know whats, hasn't happened yet but I'm not going to risk it!

Re: Creak creak! Brooks Flyer coming....

I had to get rid of my B17 due to excessive creaking (that and it turned my pinks shorts black!), i greased/oil everything but it was the rivets and there was nothing I could do about it. I am saving for a swift now though.

Re: Replacing Headset Bearings

Okay, ball bearings got and job done, my steering is now as smooth as a smooth thing that's has just got smoother.
Due to inclement weather I could only test ride on the rollers; its very twitchy. Usually I can ride on the rollers 'no hands' without any problem for long periods of time, now this is a lot trickier as front end is now quite lively even though I have the headset tightened up correctly.
Answers on a postcard.........?

Re: Replacing Headset Bearings

Thanks Brucey, it was more that if there was no cage then when the cup was fitted and the retaining washer inserted whether there would play as the cage is no longer there? But I think you answered that.
I measured the balls with verniers and they were 3mm exactly, so i will order those.

Re: Replacing Headset Bearings

Okay, grease aside I am going to do away with the cage and fit more balls. Thanks for the link and the advice.

The balls in my race are 3mm, do I have to get bigger ones to compensate for thickness of the cage? I.e 3 and 1/8mm?

Re: Replacing Headset Bearings

I'm am, never really been away but since being laid off I have never been busier (lots of cycling!), the helmet is fantastic. the shoes are only okay imo, a little on the tight side, but seeing as its always raining here I never really get a chance to give them a good airing.
How are things on here, have I missed much?

What is the link to buy the grease?

Re: Replacing Headset Bearings

I am going to replace the ball bearing in my lower bearing on my headset. I am going to go with stainless steel as I am near the coast and it rains a lot here. However, my question is this:

Which grade of stainless steel would be best? There is a choice of 316 or 420, what is the difference?

Alright that's two questions but whose counting?

Re: Hand made leather shoes

Mine were always too tight so I had to remove the inner sole and it made them fit better. The length was fine but on one shoe the width was smaller than the other and it made it too tight. I have spent many hours trying to stretch it one way or another but to no avail.

I wear them very seldom, but one word of advice.... tuck the laces in on the drive side! I didn't one day and the loop of the lace got caught in the big ring and nearly ended up on the deck.

I agree they are very well made and a beautiful shoe though.

Re: Grumbly knee

Thanks for that guys and a very good explanation Colin. I have reserched it further on t'interweb and found some stretches to try out, I have also doubled my Glucosamine intake.

Thanks again, I'm glad its not serious, I was waking up in cold sweats thinking that my cycling days were over!

Grumbly knee

After a recent event, my right knee has started to sound like an ungreased bearing, it has always clicked a lot but now it is noisy too. I haven't any pain just the usual ache after doing a long ride (150k or so).

I went to the quack and she referred me to a sports injury physio in cork as apparently cyclists only use one side of the leg muscles a lot more than the other and suggested that he would give me exercises to build up the muscles on the other side.

I have googled this and it seems to be a common problem and not one that should warrant too much worrying. I have now joined the massive ranks of the unemployed and cannot afford the costs to see this guy, so has anyone experienced this sort of problem and can anyone offer any kind of advice?

Beaky my boy, I'm the man from Cork who discussed this forum with you in Ballydehob recently!

How're things down west. Have you done the Ring of Beara recently?

Things are fine down here thanks, sunny but a tad chilly. Not done the ring yet have a couple of 200K sportives coming up that I may see you on no doubt.

The duathlon was great craic huh?
