Re: Uphill, downhill, both, neither?

I have to admit I am a real wimp when it comes to descending. I was never very good at it and I have got considerably worse as I have got older. Unfortunately when riding with a group you can never make up as much ground by climbing well as you can lose by descending badly.

Re: 2019 - Twenty a day?

Spent 4 weeks in Morocco without my bike in February (other half pines for the sun and probably needs a rest from my cycling obsession  ) so mileage so far this year is a bit down at 1890 miles to the first of April. Still aiming for 10,000 miles for the year.

I've been looking for one of these for years! Could some enterprising soul produce one with a 3D printer? ( I know nothing about such things, just a thought!)

Re: Taking bike on ferry to Isle of Wight

Unless there's a big cycling event on, e.g. the IOW Randonnee, you can just turn up & book a ticket We've always been directed to lean our bikes against the bow door. They are very secure, if there are a few cyclists on the crossing bikes may be stacked 2 deep but I've never sustained any damag...

The Isle of Wight is lovely but it isn't flat!

Re: Taking bike on ferry to Isle of Weight

You just have to lean your bike against the side of the ferry as directed by a member of the crew. It will not fall over unless the sea is ridiculously rough but if it was that bad the ferry will be cancelled anyway! I always hang around until all the bikes have been loaded to make sure no one leans...

Re: Cutting minimising nocturnal tent exits

Ladies of a certain age have this problem as well but it’s more awkward for us. I’ve always used a Pot Noodle pot (having eat the PotNoodle obviously). After I’ve had a comfort break I put it outside the fly (away from spying eyes) and empty it/wash it out in the morning. I then use it during the d...

Re: ALPKIT for touring

I have various pieces of Alpkit stuff - down jacket, headtorch, dry bags, bivi bag, all good quality and good price. I used to have a really comfy self inflating mat of theirs until I managed to pitch my tent on a lot of small thorns! :(

Re: 2019 - Twenty a day?

Was doing fine but decided to give today's ride a miss as I was worried about ice after last night's snow. Went for a good walk on the downs instead.
Current total 970 miles.
