Sadly true but making your bike less obvious and slightly less easily nicked than someone else's will always help.

Re: Good rain trousers for touring

I've found waterproof shorts aimed at MTB riders to be very effective. Same principle as Rainlegs, dry crotch and upper legs without overheating. I didn't get on with Rainlegs, they tended to get hooked up on the nose of my saddle so I sold them on this forum some years ago.
I will wear full waterproof overtrousers if it is really cold and wet.

Can you not just book through their website? I've never tried the app but online booking has always been very straightforward. Travelodge are also happy for you to take your bike into the room.

Pebble wrote: 21 Dec 2022, 11:35pm @PedalSheep, @foxyrider - great totals, how many times a week do you ride, and typical distances - is it commuting, training or just a need to be out on the road?
I generally ride 6 days a week, usually just for the morning, 30-50 miles with the occasional longer ride. I'm pretty slow (and getting slower!), I just like being out on my bike pottering around the countryside.

Re: Yearly Totals

Like foxyrider I had a target of 10,000 miles again this year. Now done 10,048 and would expect to have another 200 or so by the end of the year. Slow but steady!

Are they selling a car rug and packet of butterscotch mints to go with it?
At that price they should be including them!

Why? It's only hot water and a teabag. I assume the ingredients and the machine required to make fancy coffee are considerably more expensive.

£2.50 for tea!
You clearly live in a cheap area.
Not really, coffee started at £3.50, hot chocolate probably more. Perhaps I'm just a cheapskate!

Nearholmer wrote: 8 Dec 2022, 12:47pm You folks have cost me money now: I was thinking about buying a robust “thermos” for winter bike rides, and having learned of Mr Stanley, and that Go Outdoors stock his indestructible flasks, I just bought one.
Nothing will save you more money than a decent flask! I usually take a flask or even a stove when out on my bike but yesterday I was persuaded by a few friends to join them in the cafe. £2.50 for tea! I'm out 6 days a week, if I went to the cafe every day I would have spent almost the cost of a new bike by the end of the year let alone a flask!

Re: Warm winter socks

I've accumulated an embarrassingly large amount of cycling socks and by far the best I've found for winter are DeFeet Woolie Boolie. They are not cheap but I've had the same pair for at least 10 years and worn them every winter. They come in a range of different lengths and a limited colour choice. Just don't wash them too hot or they will shrink.
Oh, and they also have a picture of a sheep on the sole!

Re: What to feed donkeys?

Surely this matter is very simple. If you have genuine concerns that the donkey is not being properly looked after report it to the RSPCA. Otherwise just leave it alone and let the owner attend to its food requirements.
