Schwalbe winter spikes are the solution !Jon in Sweden wrote: ↑29 Jan 2024, 4:09amLovely!
I must admit though that I avoid steep hills when it's snowy. I've no issue with going uphill - it's the downhills that scare me!

Re: Stanforth Skylander Rohloff
The Rohloff twist grip shifter is a very simple ( and therefore reliable !) gear shifter - no mechanical or moving parts to fail as such as used in trigger and rapid fire style shifters. I actually prefer the twist operation to anything else, though I've often wondered if something along the lines of the now discontinued Suntour Command shifters could be adapted or used to operate the Rohloff on a drop bar set up.Jezrant wrote: ↑12 Jan 2024, 5:24pmThanks, I remember reading a write-up about the Cinq shifters on the Thorn forum. It was quite a balanced review. They've also been mentioned on here a few times but not sure if anyone else who regularly posts here has been using them. Why though have Rohloff so doggedly stuck with that twist-grip shifter? It's not as if they haven't had the time to come up with something better.plancashire wrote: ↑12 Jan 2024, 11:37amI have the Cinq thumb shifters for my Rohloff. They work well. Brifters are now also available, and for Pinion too. Rohloff do an electronic version.

So the answer for future proof gearing may well be to have fewer sprockets than 11.

Re: Flat bars and bar cons
On- One Mollymawk bars might be the right shape, as based on the Nitto albatross.. bsr end shifters may need modification to fit though.

I've got a small collection of old Cycling magazines. Competitive timed Rough stuff events appeared quite popular. Article/ images below taken from 2nd March 1938 issue of Cycling.

Re: Best way to get a 1:1 ratio
I'm pretty sure if you wish to use the synchro shift set up with the Di2 you'll need to stick with the Shimano official gear options otherwise the derailleur will not be able to recognise the correct ratios for the synchro shift to function.

I've got a Sturmey Archer 3 speed cassette hub waiting to be built up.. thinking of modifying a cassette to maybe just 4 or 5 cogs..
