Re: Drop bars - who uses the drop bit?

Turned mine upside down and cut the ends off. Work well then!

Re: Long Distance Cycle Routes

There are a lot of European riders with the different tour companies that transport the luggage each day. THis year we cycled 310k from the Brenner path to Verona and each night there were plenty of other bike tourists at the hotels with the different companies that offer carrying of luggage each da...

Re: European family tours?

The River Main which is easy to get on from Frankfurt airport and the airport is very bike friendly. The route is along the river and all on a tarmac dedicated cycle track away from any roads so no road noise either. Flat all the way with nice views of the river and some pretty towns and villages al...

Re: What's the Best GPS Unit for Cycle Touring?

I use the Viewranger app on my mobile phone and downloaded the (free) Opencycle map which I have used on all my european tours. I also have the OS maps for the UK and Ireland which I had to pay for. Since I have the phone with me anyway I have found this to be the best solution.

Re: Spring Tour - Ireland

You won't be able to take train from Wexford to Waterford anymore as it has stopped running. I think the one from Waterford to Limerick Junction is still running and then you could get a train to Cork. I quite like the cycling between Wexford and Waterford as it is good bird watching country especia...

Re: Altmuhl cycle path

Andalucía in October was perfect for temperature. Between 20 and 26 C and sunny most of the time (rained when we were in Ronda). We stayed in Montecorto with Andalucía Cycling Experience using the Leisure Ride holiday.

Altmuhl cycle path

HI

Had two great cycle tours this year - Lake Constance in Sep and then Andalucía in October and looking now for next year. The Altmuhl looks interesting from Rothenberg to Regensburg - Germany is such good value. Anyone cycled it?

Thanks Gordon

Re: Straight or Drop Bars

I use the old fashion trick - turn the drops upside down and cut the upper loop off. Great for touring!

Re: holiday recommendations for Germany

I found Frankfurt airport brilliant for the bikes. We had to change terminals and no problem with the bikes on the airport bus. We had booked a 'classy' hotel (the Hilton) and just wheeled the bikes straight in through the marble floor reception - not a blink of an eyelid! next day I had a puncture ...

Mecklenburg Lakes Cycle Route

Hi

Has anyone cycled the above route? I have been reading up on it and it sounds great for next summer but I was wondering how good the path is. There is talk of cobbles and I was wondering if there is much of this. Thanks

Hi We cycled the Algrave from the Spanish border to the most SW point in Europe in September of this year. We flew into Faro and picked up bikes from Lisa Bikes and the caught the train to the Spanish border and started the cycle. Lisa Bikes had arranged the route as they advise not always riding th...

Re: holiday recommendations for Germany

We flew to Frankfurt Airport with out bikes, cycled the Main cycle path to Bamberg and then caught the train back to the airport staying in 2 star accommodation which we booked in advance. Absolutely no problems and a fantastic tarmac cycle path. Over 300 k, all away from traffic. They even have ven...

Re: Loire Valley

Hi We cycled from Orleans to Tours this year during August and last year from Tours to Angers. We both thought it fantastic. Great to be on cycle paths away from traffic looking out over the river with the great wildlife. Great food and wine, good gardens to visit and nice old towns. We used the loc...
